This is a compact 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner with a remote, best suited for a bedroom, garage, porch, or other single room where floor space is tight. It can cool a room enough to be livable, and the smaller footprint is a real plus compared with bulkier dual hose units. The main tradeoffs are the single hose design, which is less efficient and can pull in warm air, plus frequent condensate draining and noticeable noise. Fit and reliability concerns also came up, including awkward window installation and reports of units failing after months.

  • The unit can shut off when the humidity tank is full, so draining the condensate helps keep cooling running.

  • The remote control adds convenience by letting you adjust temperature without repeatedly getting up.

  • The single-hose design can still cool a single room effectively when positioned near a window.

  • The smaller footprint can help when floor space is limited, such as in a camper setup.

  • The unit can require frequent condensate draining, and some setups may need a pedestal for clearance.

  • The single-hose portable design can create negative pressure that draws warm air into the house through gaps.

  • The exhaust hose placement can limit flexibility, so furniture like a bed may prevent proper positioning under the window.

  • The unit may develop musty or mildew odor during operation even after cleaning residue from the output nozzles.

My central ac is acting up and I need something to try to get me until the end of the summer in New England. Trying to get an HVAC company do do a new install right now is impossible.
So...can someone recommend an alternative to this that would work better? I live in a loft that is in an old renovated mill building. 14ft ceiling and brick walls. My unit is on the end and my bedroom is difficult to get under 78 degrees on hot days. My budget is around $400.
14ft ceiling doesnt mean anything without other dimensions.

Midea U 12000 BTU should get you through the summer...was $300
(I used one all summer 2025 in FL while renovating a 2100sq ft investment property...so not to dirty the Central AC and ducts).

If cant do window...
then the portable unit $400

Single hose units also dump evaporate into the exhaust. That's not a reason to get a dual hose
It sure is a good reason!! I have a single-hose unit that needs daily draining. I also have a dual-hose unit that never needs draining.
Have you ever had to drain a portable unit? There isn't even enough room between the bottom and the floor to fit a red solo cup. I have to put it on a little pedestal.

NO. These are garbage.Especially if you live in a warm climate.negative pressure sucks in all the HOT humid air from all the the gaps.also 65 dB (standard) loud as heck.I have an attached garage with new insulated impact rated doors. It's easier and faster to open my house door for 5 minutes instead of running a noisy crappy unit like this for several hours.I tried it and was absolutely horrible. Gave it to my neighbor and WARNED him how bad. he tried it and agreed.
Thank you very much for the response. You definitely saved me some money and frustration.

Problem with these portables (even dual hose) is the compressor is still inside the home. Making it less efficient, hot, and noisy. Especially in a bedroom. If you have a window in the bedroom, then look into those U-Shaped inverter window units. Or better yet, a small mini split. In both cases, the condenser is outside, more efficient, less electricity, quieter, and room will get much colder. And also condensate water will drip outside.

Been there, done that in Florida with portables. Even dual hose units struggle to keep the room cool. Put a mini split in, and unbelievable how much better they are compared to portables. Put in a second mini split. I'm thinking to put mini splits in every room and only spot cool as needed. I have two central ac units and electric bill is off the charts from those. Cooling a home that most rooms are empty.
People are not buying these if they want a permanent AC install... I don't see how this is helpful.

I mean... the guy wanted to take the air from in the room, and then dump the same hot air into the same room. I don't know that this is going to explain much to this one lol.

What's the issue with single hose again? Noobie here
Single hose is less efficient, but it's not that bad. What bothered me was the noise, so I eventually got a window AC.

A dual hose makes sense for a living room or if it's your main ac. It's dumb if you're just using it for your bedroom. This is a much smaller footprint than any dual hose one.

I see comments about single hose being bad. And yes, it's not the best option. But it does cool, and for less than half the price of dual hose versions.
Also, if you have a sliding glass door to place it at, we found a way to place (a different model) mostly outside, and use a insulated board to fill in the gap above and it blows extremely cold air in, and pulls almost zero air in other than the minor not perfectly sealed areas. We used some bricks outside the door ti keep it level. Been using the same soleus or however it's spelled for 13 years now. Close off areas of the house not being used and it can work for a larger area. On really hot days however, it just slows the heating, and doesn't cool enough.
BUT our highest elect bill using this during the summer was $119. I'm in Southern California.
I'd wager a full house airconditioning costs a lot more. Depends on how much money you have for cooling.
