The single hose units waste energy by blowing out your room's air through the tube. My unit was very loud. They also need to be drained of condensate water often. They are cheap, though.
The dual hose units not only have an isolated outside air loop that prevents sucking the air out of the room, they also use the hot air exhaust to evaporate the condensate water so it almost never needs to be drained. They are also relatively quiet compared to single hose units. They're also more expensive.

So...can someone recommend an alternative to this that would work better? I live in a loft that is in an old renovated mill building. 14ft ceiling and brick walls. My unit is on the end and my bedroom is difficult to get under 78 degrees on hot days. My budget is around $400.
FWIW, I'm betting there is also a huge quality difference between that single vs dual hose of yours. Could it be the fact the dual hose is a far better brand (and likely an inverter) vs a non-name single hose? And I'm being it cost double....right? So x2 money buys a better product? Crazy concept....
Like comparing a Ford Fiesta stick shift vs a BMW automatic...maybe the transmission isn't really what divides the two products
