Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 is shaping up as a compact gaming and emulation tablet with a fast Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 8.8 inch 3K 165 hertz display, and strong handheld-friendly size. The IPS panel gets praise for smoothness and overall improvement over earlier Legion Tabs, and the microSD slot adds welcome storage flexibility. The main knocks are the $649.99 price, the 12GB and 256GB configuration, and uncertainty around Lenovo's software update commitment. It feels best suited to gaming-focused buyers who value performance and portability over OLED and top-tier storage.
The tablet includes a microSD slot, which helps expand storage for games and emulation libraries.
The Snapdragon Elite chipset supports strong gaming and emulation performance with graphics driver compatibility for Android gaming.
The Legion Tab Gen 5 can handle couch emulation well, including indie titles and older AAA games.
The 8.8-inch size is well suited for handheld gaming setups using a USB controller.
Lenovo's OS update commitment for the Gen 5 is unclear, and some reports suggest only one or two updates.
The $649.99 price can feel steep for the 12GB RAM configuration compared with expectations around $500.
Some Chinese ROM/Y700 variants may limit Wi‑Fi behavior, including missing 6GHz support or different Wi‑Fi bands for USA use.
The screen quality is described as middle-of-the-road by some buyers, with at least one comment calling it the main drawback.
