Pros -
1. Sound quality is very good. These are powerful speakers, and they will easily serve your needs even in a large area. So they excel in the capability that matters the most
2. Lighting is fun to use with a few different modes. Of course, it's a non-essential feature but it's fun for kids. And it can easily be turned off.
3. On a few occasions we used it as a portable speaker in the bedroom while it was connected to a streaming stick. There was no obvious lip sync issues.
4. In that same scenario, the battery lasted very long (just few hours of TV watching every evening).
5. Uses a regular 2-pin C8 power cable. So, no proprietary power input, and no external power brick.
Cons -
1. The connection between two speakers in synced 'party mode' or 'L/R stereo mode' is not that great. My two speakers are opposite each other in the living room and not very far from each other. And yet there is occasional stuttering. It's not so bad that it's unusable, but it's there. To be fair this might be because one of the speakers is placed right next to a WiFi router so that might be causing interference. But still, the connection could have been more robust.
2. The stuttering when synced issue, though not that bad to render it useless, irritated me enough times that I bought two WiiM Audio streamers and.connected both via 3.5mm Aux input. The WiiM audio streamers sync over WiFi and so the party connection is much more stable. The 'con' here is that there is no manual way to switch between 3.5mm aux input and Bluetooth. If the speaker detects that there is an Aux signal, it will always take precedence. That's a good thing when you want to the switch to be automatic, but a pain when you want to force it to switch inputs. Just have turn it on and off a couple of times and make sure aux input is silent. Worst case - have to pull out the aux cable. Wish there was a button to manually switch inputs. I have a much older small Bose Bluetooth speaker that has an input button on top for precisely this.
3. This is my biggest problem with these speakers and might seem nitpicking -- But the speakers don't have BLE support; a low energy implementation that make the Bluetooth dormant but always listening. What I mean by that is - If I want to start listening to music, I have to physically walk over to the speakers and turn them on. This is extremely irritating to me. My Bose Bluetooth speaker, even when is off is always 'listening. If I pick up my phone and just tap connect on the Bluetooth list, the speakers just turns ON, on it's own; regardless of whether it is connected to a power source or not. The same problem extends to the Aux input on JBLs. Speakers don't detect a signal an turn on. Either which way, I have to walk to one or both of them and turn them on manually. It's unfortunate that JBL hasn't implemented all features of the modern Bluetooth standard; things that much older speakers have; and even some JBL models have.
