This Kasa outdoor smart plug stands out for reliable weatherproof control of holiday lights, deck lights, and other outdoor gear, with native Apple HomeKit support and two outlets. The EP40A version pairs quickly with Apple Home and also works with Alexa, Google Assistant, and SmartThings. Long-term durability looks strong, with units still running through Chicago winters and years of heat, cold, dust, and pollen. The main caveat is that Kasa devices can depend on TP Link cloud access for Alexa and schedules, and the Home app may keep showing the last outlet status when unplugged. It is a solid fit if you want outdoor smart control with Apple integration.
These outdoor smart plugs can keep working for years through outdoor heat and cold extremes.
The HomeKit-compatible EP40A model can pair quickly with Apple Home using Bluetooth support.
These plugs can maintain strong Wi-Fi responsiveness at long range and through walls.
The plugs can show last known status in the Home app even after unplugging, which can help with holiday setups.
The plugs can be controlled reliably after linking through SmartThings when an outdoor setup initially fails.
The EP40 model reportedly lacks Apple HomeKit support, so Apple Home control may not work.
The plugs can stop working when internet access is blocked even if local network access remains available.
The Kasa app may not regain control after an outdoor setup failure until SmartThings is used first.
The Home app can keep showing last status even when unplugged, which can be misleading for real-time monitoring.

- Kasa EP40: Works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT. It does not support Apple HomeKit.
- Kasa EP40A: Adds native support for Apple HomeKit (Siri) and Samsung SmartThings, alongside Alexa and Google Assistant. It also includes a Bluetooth radio specifically utilized to ease the initial setup pairing process.
Definitely worth the $1 if you use Apple. Probably worth the $1 for the bluetooth.Join The Conversation
