It's frustrating to me that Nikon rides the accolades of their past and seeks profitability above all. These are not even WATER RESISTANT (let that sink in). And while I get it, they're entry level binocs, so are the comparison Vortex pair below. At this SALE price, Nikon or not, I don't get that they can't seal the tubes and make them waterproof (or even water resistant) to protect the lens integrity. But no, Nikon even explicitly states that they are NOT water resistant.
Yes, Nikon optics have traditionally been high quality and made in Japan (and their pricier models are in fact top quality). But these are made in China (which isn't necessarily bad, but it DOES and should effect the price) and people see the Nikon name and instinctively assume Japanese overall quality.
These Nikons are a Porro-Prism design and it does produce a mildly brighter image than the comparison binocs below, which are roof prism. The trade off is that the roof prism design is a lighter and smaller form factor, which many prefer.
At the retail price point you can get similar or better optic glass and binocs that are O ring sealed and nitrogen purged for full waterproof protection, AND a lifetime, no questions asked, any reason, any future owner warranty that isn't a gimmick and is WELL verified. The Vortex Triumph HD is one of those better options. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6N72X5Y/?th=1
The non water resistant Nikon Action retails for $103 and the Vortex Triumph HD retail at $99. You can routinely catch the Vortex Triumph HD on sale (was 75.82 during 2025 Black Friday), Prime Days coming in a week and that is a good opportunity usually. Not even close, between these two options.
If you love Nikon and want their model that is a roof prism and MORE comparable to the Vortex model, it's this one, the Nikon PROSTAFF P3 10x42:
https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Bino...0B3JSRZFJ/
The Prostaff P3 is NICE and the lenses are fortunately actually made in Japan and sent to and assembled in China, and that's a win. They're waterproof, etc... and are a direct competitor to Vortex's Triumph HD line. The Nikon Prostaff P3 is currently on sale for $97 and have been averaging $145 retail the past 6 months, so that's a good price actually.
I'd be happy with either the Vortex Triumph HD or Nikon Prostaff P3 for $100. But not these Nikon Actions, even at that sale price.
This is just my humble opinion and I'm no expert, just a user and buyer myself.

Agreed. Since the Prostaffs are also on sale, they are absolutely worth the extra $23
