Was hoping the gold would come down closer to $130 for prime day but this is way too good of a deal to pass. not worth paying 2.5x more for the 5.1 ghz connection. i'm sure this will be stable enough

The Gold Series is probably something better for anyone with a thicker, heavy duty, pro level smoker or grill? From the Gold description: The Sync Gold Series is the world's first wireless meat thermometer powered by Sub-1 GHz technology—offering a signal strength 10x stronger than traditional Bluetooth thermometers. The connection seamlessly penetrates walls, smokers, kamado grills, and Dutch ovens, ensuring reliable monitoring even in the toughest cooking conditions.
Emphasis on "Sub-1g", the connection from the temp probe to the receiving unit is superior to almost anything out right now. App is pretty good too, but not necessary for use as the receiver shows all pertinent info.

Just want to add there are other manufacturers nowadays that state they use the "sub 1g" tech, but I have no info to offer of substance on those.

The G2 has similar Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/phone app connectivity but also has Sub-1G long range connectivity...for the same price. The Typhur Sync Gold model offers all three connectivity options but currently costs $149-$199 depending on where you're purchasing it. And the specs for it are almost identical to the G2...just a slicker looking case.

And to level set...ThermoMaven devices are manufactured by Typhur.

I have a kamado so was interested in the sub 1ghz but have been using a meater in mind and it's been fine for the most part. Reviews tell me this is a slight step above meater connectivity even without the gold sub 1 so I'm in for it at this price.

I have both the gold and the sync...as long as you're not trying to push through ceramic and aluminum foil aHoert the same time, generally both are fine. But I've had them both go offline. I have a Kamado Joe and a Backwoods G3 Party smoker for reference and I haven't had any significant trouble with the Typhur.

However, I've had very poor experiences with Meeter and ThermoMaven. Even IF the ThermoMavens are manufactured by Typhur, they must be using inferior parts or something, because compared to the Typhur's they garbage. I returned them in less than a week after 2 cooks because they couldn't hold a signal at all.

The G2's are garbage IMO. They couldn't hold a signal through my Kamado or box smoker. Like, less than 15 ft away.

Are they ever going to come out with probes that don't put a gaping hole in the meat?

I got this in quad and...
.
I don't really like it that much. Unless I need to RTM, one has to set each probe on auto each time. However, it does memorize the set temps.

Plus, it seems that if you precisely do not align each of them on the grill the probes will give off (sometimes wildly) various temps.
.
I use it, but also set 7 minute a side at ~425 on a stainless gas grill for chicken breast as that leaves them juicy even after the breasts rests(must do).
This produces the most consistent results.
This is the way.

Can confirm, have the G2 and it's excellent. The multiple temp sensors in the probes is pretty damn amazing.

Great probes! I did upgrade to the Gold Quad as I love them and use them all the time in my smoker.

What am I missing, any reason not to get the quad for $80?
