This Glycine Airman Contemporary Bronze GMT is a 44mm automatic pilot watch that stands out for cockpit readability, a busy but legible dial, and a slim under 12mm profile for the size. The bronze case, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, and Swiss SW330 2 movement add to the appeal, and the current $649 with free shipping is described as the lowest price seen for these newer sunburst dial versions. The main caution is fit, since 44mm can feel large on smaller wrists and the brand's inflated MSRP history makes the discount less dramatic than it looks. A strong option if the size and pilot style suit you.

Common Questions (3)

  • The 44mm case is considered large if you usually wear 36-40mm watches, and wrist shape matters a lot under 7 inches. It can work well for 42-44mm fans, but the busy dial and long case length make 42mm the easier sweet spot for many wrists.

  • The $649 price is the current sale price after coupon, but the watch has been seen cheaper in the past around the $450-$500 range for a stronger buy. It is still described as the lowest price yet for these new 44mm brass GMT models, with free shipping and no tax on some related listings.

  • Glycine's MSRP is widely treated as inflated, with the brand's watches often found far below sticker price and some models selling from about $150 to $800 depending on type. The current discount is framed as a marketing strategy rather than a change in product quality, and the brand is now under Invicta ownership.

Worth having?
Glycine used to be a reputable Swiss watch until bought by Invicta. Don't believe in the hyper inflated MSRP and a crazy 80% discount. This is straight from the playbook of Invicta BS "MSRP for $1,499 and sale for $300". $300 is the true MSRP. Look it up.

Love the look of this one. Wish I could pull off 44mm.
What size is your wrist? If you've been wearing 36 -40mm all your life then a 44 seems real big. If your wrist is under 7' then the shape of your wrist matters. But it may not be too big for you. I remember long ago I thought 36mm was way big! Not anymore. I don't go Flava Flav but I like big now. 42-44mm is my sweet spot but the thickness matter A LOT to me too.

Already posted above. I have 425 watches currently, owned over 700.…..I'm familiar with what works on my wrist size. Good news is Glycine will follow the leaders here and move to a 42mm soon enough as they have with their other models.

Who cares? You're hating on a well made item at its lowest price ever because of a marketing strategy? Which apparently seems to work for them. I don't like it either but that doesn't diminish the quality of the item, only the brand image and how you shop for it. Low quality items tend to use this strategy to move volume. But glycine was doing this before the Invicta takeover just not as frequently or aggressively.

The Swiss watch industry almost died in the 80s due to quartz. Then it took another nose dive with smart watches and many people just using their phone to tell time. So a struggling family owned watch company sold ownership rights to help with marketing and distribution... did the product or quality change in the end? Honestly, most people can't tell a difference.

Glycine already had comically large watches before the invicta takeover. There were many 46, 48, and even 50mm models in their lineup. All the big brands rely heavily on "remember when..." marketing, and glycine is no exception. I especially find their models in fight gear with a fog machine standing next to a warbird too much... that seems to be invicta influenced.

At the end of the day mechanical watches are no more than jewlery with a nostalgia story attached to them that happen to tell the time with moderate accuracy. They are no longer tools that people rely on with their lives... in this case there are plenty of instruments in the cockpit that do the same thing faaar more accurately. Is this piece of jewlery well made? Is it a price you are willing to pay? That's all that matters in the end. Frankly it's amazing that mechanical watches are even this cheap to begin with considering all the work that goes into them.

Nice looking watch, and if it's anything like their combat sub, it wears very well and is a fantastic piece. Yes, glycine is now invicta, which isn't good, but they claim to be hands-off with the glycine brand, so take that for whatever it's worth. That said, this isn't a "deal", it's the regular b.s. "sale" price Ashford usually has. If'n it were back around the $450-$500 price point.... That's a friggin' deal and I'd buy now and ask forgiveness later.
.... that just answered my questions.... thanks

We are so gullible. The things we buy that we don't need. Meanwhile many of our kind are starving or can't afford Meds. Having a direct connection with a 3rd world country charity where i visit every few years really helped me with judging my spending. Still i have my expensive hobbies, mainly tech sruffs though. But have resisted upgrading my car for over a decade n buying more watches other than smart watches that i trade in every 2 years for a newer one.

It just takes ine visit of seeing someone selling his eye for cornea transplant to afford meds for his mom to realize how fortunate we are and how much power we hold that we give away to these corps, to our egoes ultimately...whereas we could really change someone's life witha. Different decision and even feel better longer (different ego boost 😅).
Anyways wrong place to talk these, what am I doing being the party pooper on SD l. I want a Steel royal oak 😫 must resist

Actually the market is moving smaller with 39mm to 42mm being the norm. The days of wearing 46mm to 50mm Invictas has long since passed. You see every major Swiss watch maker introducing 39mm men's watches were 42mm use to be the smallest. I welcome it, as 43mm is my limit for 'normal watches' and 46mm for tool or divers. Just can't pull off a 44mm with 6.5" wrists and a relatively long L2L over 48mm.
The market is responding to the demographic shift, in that people who are still buying, even what was once considered a "tool" watch, from Swiss makers are just plain smaller nowadays. As a guy with an almost 8" wrist, I can appreciate a 42-45mm case, but below that it looks like I'm wearing my wife's watch.

I actually kinda evny the guys with smaller wrists as it opens up a whole bunch of designs that are spectacular looking, like the stunning Seamaster Railmaster which if memory serves, tops out at 39mm. Or a basic 38mm Hamilton mechanical field watch.

1st world problems, amirite?
