Well, I know I'm speaking for more than just myself when I say that I can trust Steam by way of Valve way more than I can Activision by way of Microsoft since Valve isn't at least motivated by or beholden to shareholders so take that for what you will.

Until you can't. Don't trust any one company. Management changes all the time and some company you thought was safe, no longer is. Single point of failure is not a place I'd want to be in.

PS, I'm on many platforms including Xbox, PlayStation, GoG and Steam. The only one I don't is Epic Store. They can F off with their anti-consumer BS. By far I prefer GoG, even though there's some drama now with them possibly supporting Nazi's.

So w/ your logic, I might as well just bootleg my games since that's a sure bet way for me to preserve myself a copy since I can't "trust any one company" which is not my underlying intention since I prefer to support the publisher whose games catch my interest/attention and on the platform I prefer. Of course, nothing is granted or lasts forever which is quite obvious so there's no need for me to broadcast a disclaimer.

I also own games on multiple console platforms, however, I'm very aware they all have their individual faults, and it comes down to choosing which is the lesser of the 2 or however many "evils." No need to bash one company over the other b/c their business practices don't align w/ your worldview. Let's be serious, you can't be over there lecturing me over me showing favoritism towards one platform when you're over there doing the same.

I'm not suggesting you do any pirating. I assume you want to stay within legal bounds, because you don't need a "storefront" to pirate today. So I find that a weird argument.
If you're fine with whatever you're doing then do it. Not sure why you're arguing and suggesting piracy for or feel like I'm lecturing you. Maybe that's why you take it so negatively. It's an exchange of information and encouraging diversification in the industry. I love Steam, but let's face it, they have too strong standing in the market (deservedly so), and one day, they may no longer be that.
People get so defensive with Steam....

Valve takes a 30% (!) cut of all game sales (lowers to 25% and 20% after certain sales thresholds). Imagine spending years and tens or hundreds of millions to develop a game, then Valve takes 30 cents for every dollar that you charge for the game. There are millions upon millions of Microsoft shareholders. There is only one Gabe Newell. It's kind of wild.. his net worth is listed at $11B, per a google search, vs. Bill Gates at ~$100B. Who created more value in the world? Gates or Newell? It's like comparing a grain of sand to a mountain.
Personally, I'd rather see the game developer & publisher get the most from their work. Not the platform with a monopolistic market position.
I'm surprised that Blizzard.net doesn't sell its games for a lower price than what they are listed on Steam at. Perhaps that violates Valve's rules and they would delist that publishers' games from Steam.
