The difference ses to be battery size. The LP80 has the 10.5Ah battery and gets better range.

also there is a significant weight penalty, possibly the straw that breaks the camel's back, states something like 27 vs 38 pounds of 5.2Ah vs 10.5Ah

I would not think that would be significant on the battery itself, a larger battery is also preventing voltage sag when under load which is likely a net benefit after any losses for it's weight. I might guess the weight limit on these cheaper scooters is 200lbs or less.

How much weight can it hold? Looked at the site, but didn't see it.

I have one of these, and they don't have lock washers/shock absorbers on the handle. As a result, the handle screws tend to loosen over time. We already lost one screw. They did include an extra replacement screw, but you'll need to keep an eye on it and periodically check that the handle isn't getting loose. Just something to watch out for!

This is what I found on their listing pages. LP80 is also 26lbs, which is same weight as LP60.
Where does your 38lbs come from?

LP80
Product weight: 12kg (26.45lbs)
Package Weight: 14.5kg (31.96lbs)

LP60
Item Weight: 26 Pounds

265 pounds. I'm 290 pounds tho and ride it around my neighborhood with the kids and it pulls me just fine. I've also taken it with me when traveling for work and I've ridden around NYC and Philly and it's fun way worth the price

Similar experience here. At 270 it slowly accelerates uphill; get about 8-10 mph uphill. Any luck with the brake? I find it way too touchy.
