This is a great price for a metal case 8-port 1 gig switch. I've had the 5 port version from TP-link and it hasn't let me down and I paid about this much for it. It's general consensus that metal cases dissipate heat better and the switch lasts longer than plastic case versions.

Also, the higher bandwidth TP-Link 2.5gb 8-port version is on sale for $50 and that's a good price too. I have one and it's got a nice "heft" to it. There aren't many known brands for 2.5gb 8-port switches available for $50. It's essentially Brostrend & Tenda which are both plastic case switches for $50, and the on-sale 2.5gb metal case TP-link for the same price. Otherwise, it's the typical odd Amazon brands. YMMV but I tried one of these off-brand 2.5gb switches and initiated a return the same day because it would drop connection randomly. I've had no such issues with my TP-link switches.

Just curious what your use case for the 2.5gb version is? I have a fiber connection but even that only gets me 1gb/s?

I'd recommend spending a couple of bucks more and getting this one for the additional features

Can this one be managed remotely through a web interface? I've been eyeing the unifi cloud gateways.

It has a web interface, but you need to be on the local network (or expose it, but that's not really recommended). You need to move up to the Omada line to have centralized/cloud web management.

Basically, all of them. The one in this deal is essentially nothing more than a switch where you can plug things into. The one I linked has the additional abilities to set up VLANs, QoS, link aggregation, etc.

The use case would be connecting to anything else on this side of the fiber connection. The speed of that fiber connection comes into play only when you're connecting to things on the other side of that fiber connection (ie things on the internet). Connecting to things on this side of the fiber connection (like other machines/devices in your house) can benefit from a faster speed switch.

95% of people aren't going to use those features. They are just looking for a way to turn one ethernet line into multiple ethernet lines to send around their house.
