Nope. Angle grinder is the super set that does almost everything that this ultra light version does. The only advantage that I can think of for this version is it's weight and compact size, making light job a lot easier. You need two hands for angle grinder but only one hand for this compact tool. And using angle grinder feels a bit scary.

There's also the Ryobi 18v 4.5" angle grinder w/4ah battery and charger for $99, also factory blem. Is there any reason to get this over that if one doesn't need an ultra-compact tool?

Nope. Angle grinder is the super set that does almost everything that this ultra light version does. The only advantage that I can think of for this version is it's weight and compact size, making light job a lot easier. You need two hands for angle grinder but only one hand for this compact tool. Interesting I have the angle grinder and it says not to use the cutoff blades/discs. Could have used this for some rebar recently but went with annoying recip saw instead.

I purchased the Dewalt this year. For me it came down to the Dewalt 20v or Milwaukee M12. After much research I went with the Dewalt based on tests and reviews. Wouldn't mind a second unit to keep ready with a multi purpose blade installed however. How does this compare to the Dewalt?

No major differences, both are very similar. But if I had to choose one, it would be the Dewalt. The one I use the most is definitely the M12 because of the smaller size and weight of the unit and batteries.

Same, except I can handle the grinder with one hand. You don't really need two, you just have to know how to handle it.

That said the grinder had become just a back up now. I use it primarily for large diameter work, to grind something flat, or where the mini grinder can't quite get the correct angle on the material that i am working. Other than that this mini version is my go to tool.
