Not even close! Microsoft Defender has improved significantly but doesn't have the detection capabilities of ESET! Also these licenses are for at least 3 devices! I use one on my home computer, tablet and cell phone! I've used ESET for years and its very unintrusive!

What do you mean? Genuine question. One of my kids uses my W10 machine (I know, I know, use the cheat to get it to W11) and is old enough now to start using the internet for searches and stuff. I've personally got a security clearance and over twenty years I've had zero security issues at work and home.

With that said, it's amazing how many people click on the fake phishing emails sent out by security and I've seen some pretty convincing attempts. Common sense should prevail, but for $10 I'd like to have the backup.

Finally, even on my older W10 machine I dont notice any issues with slow downs from Bitdefender, which I chose again over this. I guess YMMV

Genuinely curious, is this even still needed? I know most built-in antivirus has improved dramatically over the years.
This is a trick question because there are millions of variables depending on how you use your device, what is installed on your device, and how savvy you are overall. Microsoft Defender ain't bad when combined with the free malwarebytes Windows firewall control. For anyone with years of experience this combo is free and pretty solid if they don't go looking at naked people websites laden with zero day exploits and keep all browsers and OS update to religiously.

This version, security essentials, is just what I need. Already have VPN and my password manager involves pen and paper 🤓

I enjoy ESET's URL checking which it performs on both PCs and Android devices and how it always blocks malicious things within certain less than reputable websites. I do not wish to run NoScript and ESET catches nasty scripts that Defender can sometimes miss. Scripts that do things like harvesting your password list saved in your web browser for example.

This deal is simply ideal for that special family member who always clicks on things that no sane nor savvy person would click on.
BTW it isn't obvious but with the main ESET window open press F5 to enter advanced configuration. In case you needed to whitelist anything

Good to know about the 2 year limit to activate.
My current Eset expires in Sept and I already had an extra to carry me to Sept 2027 and I 'almost' purchased TWO, but extras beyond 1 more would fall past that 2 year limit date. So picking up this 1 to activate in Sept 2027 will cover me to Sept 2028.
Good deal, thx OP.
