The Fiskars X25 is a lightweight splitting axe that gets high marks for fast, easy swings and strong leverage on firewood, especially compared with heavier mauls or shorter camp axes. The handle is described as effectively unbreakable, and the axe is said to handle most wood well, with tough knotty spruce as the main exception. The main caution is model confusion, since the X25 and the black 28 inch version appear to have different head weights. Availability also looks shaky, with reports of stock delays and possible discontinuation.

  • Home firewood splitters who want a light, easy-swinging axe because it handles most wood well and stays durable over years of use.

  • Campers who split logs at a campsite because the 28-inch length gives better leverage than shorter axes and it outperformed other axes on trips.

  • People replacing a heavy maul for regular splitting because this style is easier to swing and can become the tool they never go back from.

  • Shoppers who need the axe soon because orders have been delayed for weeks or cancelled when stock never arrived.

  • Buyers needing a specific head weight because X25 listings can vary and the model may not match the weight shown in the listing.

  • Campers who only need an occasional axe because this is better suited to splitting lots of logs than to most casual camping trips.

So are the listed specs correct? Is this still worth it if it is just a little fella?

This is the best axe I've ever owned, I've had it about 10-15 years and would buy one in a heartbeat at this price if I needed one.

It's only 2 lb, yet 28 inch long. Seems a bit too light for two hands, too long for one hand. I find it's best to use a heavier ax without excess swing force, instead of swing a light ax fast. The later probably better for a fight.
Haha, light for fighting. For real tho, if you havent tried these axes, give one a shot. I have the 36 and the 17. I dont know what this 28 might feel like, but my 36 is amazing. Way better than a heavy splitter. Heavy is more work to use. These fly around like nothing. Plus if a fight breaks out while ur splitting, you will be better prepared

Get a regular chopping axe for camping. You don't need a splitter.

I'd say, get this. This is a great price for this particular Fiskars.

FYI:
1. I bought this for splitting fire woods when we go camping. 2. I live in the city. I'm not an axe expert.
3. My decision was based upon:
-Shorter axes (~15") give your poor leverage; more difficult to use. Everything is relative, though.
-My eye was set on any 28"+ Fiskars and my price point was $40.
-I don't trek. So this axe goes into the car and it stays in the campground.Hope this helps.
