For what it's worth, this is being sold under the "eBay refurbished" program with a two-year warranty from Allstate.

In order to qualify for the two-year warranty, eBay requires the item to be refurbished by either the manufacturer or an authorized reseller. Any items not meeting this criteria are only given a one-year warranty from Allstate.

This item is being listed as Certified Refurbished which is the top tier condition-wise, ranking even above excellent condition.

If you need more peace of mind, sellers found misrepresenting the condition of the refurbished items they are selling face being banned by eBay.

Hope this helps someone if they are on the fence.

These specs are basically what is recommended for computer science masters students. I'd recommend the macbook neo with education discount, can easily add parental controls and good resale after a few years when they need a better laptop for college

This Latitude 5330 2 in 1 looks like a strong compact Windows laptop for school work, note taking, and everyday portability. The 13.3 inch touch screen, i7 1265U, 32GB of RAM, and 512GB storage are described as plenty for demanding coursework, and the tablet mode is called useful with the right note taking app. Real world reports put battery life around 4 to 5 hours, with an occasional noisy fan. The main cautions are the heavier build versus the Latitude 7330, soldered RAM that could turn a failure into a paperweight, and refurb condition that may include small cosmetic flaws or missing screws.

Common Questions (5)

  • It is listed under eBay Refurbished as Certified Refurbished, which is the top condition tier and is supposed to meet eBay's higher refurbishment standards. One comment also notes that eBay's 2-year Allstate warranty applies only when the item is refurbished by the manufacturer or an authorized reseller.

  • Battery life is reported at about 4 to 5 hours. That makes it usable for classes or light work, but not an all-day unplugged machine.

    farhadny

  • Yes, the RAM is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded later. If a RAM chip fails, the laptop can become unusable, which makes memory failure a bigger risk than on upgradeable systems.

    spamdie

  • Yes, the tablet mode can work well for note taking with the right app, and a pen would make it more useful. The 2-in-1 design is one of the main practical advantages of this model.

    gerf

  • The 5330 is about half a pound heavier than the standard 7330 because of cheaper construction materials. That difference may matter if it will be carried often or for long periods.

This must have the tiniest keyboard ever because usually 13.3" screen models don't have the full number pad on the right side. That's usually reserved for 15" screens.

What is the warranty on it? I don't see a warranty mentioned anywhere.

It's right on the front page under Add to Watchlist. "Got you covered. Two-year warranty included."

YMMV on this. I had this particular model. The issue is that most if not all the configuration have soldered ram in it. Not a problem unless one of the chips go bad. Which one of mine did.

So just be aware if bad ram crops up. Then it's basically a paperweight. And Allstate warranties suck. Pretty much you'll run into this.

They don't deny everyone. But i've been denied by them on a used item as i bought a year warranty. They claimed on a used item that it's within the 1 year manufacturer warranty.

This should be fine for a kid to use while in middle school, right? They mostly use the web and Google docs.
Yes, it's more than enough.

"Mostly use the webs and Google docs".

That's exactly what I do and I have Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 which is more than enough for my needs. My son gifted me and he bought from Amazon refurbished and paid around $250.

Chromebook is suitable for your kids. My kids' high school used Chromebook for school work.
the CX34 is nice, but, capped out at 8gb or ram. that will matter more and more in the next 24 months.

I can say the part about "top tier...above excellent' and potential consequences hasn't rung true from what I've seen. Take a look for Slickdeals threads on the midea 12k btu dual hose portable AC unit. It's certified refurbished, 2 year warranty on eBay, and theyve sold it for years, usually at the beginning of summer. It seems to have a 50/50 shot of showing up newish or with obvious dings/dents/blemishes, often missing parts. Failure rate is also significantly high. So.i don't know that eBay really has a handle on QC. I'm not saying folks shouldn't go for this, the allstate warranty is solid should anything go wrong.

Well, it was a gift from my child, so I am not gonna complain. It's almost 1 year old. If it lasts 2 more years, I am OK with that.

Good eye! I had to zoom in the photo to see the keyboard.

I can not disagree with a single word you've said. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there.

Hopefully, eBay stands behind their policy and backs up their words.

eBay has always done right by me, but others have had legitimate gripes about how they were treated.
