Yeah, they're a "zombie brand" now. Strictly a brand licensing operation.The original Altec Corporation went through a series of bankruptcies and stopped manufacturing decades ago. Their speakers are now rebadged, cheap consumer goods, made by third-party contract manufacturers with zero connection to the original engineers. Similar situation with Nakamichi, Blaupunkt, Acoustic Research, and others.

I have this same model in Black. 5yrs. Battery drained over winter and trickle charged last week to full Battery. On par with mega boom speaker

That Oontz Ultra is a little 1lb speaker.

The Hydrashock is a 5lb boombox that is going to have more bass and I three times the size.

Well, the older model was fake USB-C, so it's been a failure so far. When I say fake USB-C, I mean gadgets that have a USB-C port but require a USB-A-to-C cable and cannot charge with a USB-C-to-C cable and charger. This is in clear violation of the usb c spec when devices do this. It was a 'remanufactured' unit from some seller advertised on slickdeals and the batter only lasted about 6 months and couldn't run off wall power. Had to charge it up and unplug it to use it.

I also have this in black from several years ago. It sounds great. For less than $30, I can't imagine finding something better. Changing it from vertical to horizontal changes how they speakers output

damn this thing is super loud I wasn't expecting that at this price! box it came in mentions the battery is 2,000 mah at 14.8 volts, AC charger is 18v 2.5 amps.
