About 15 minutes ago Amazon just price-matched all colors at $399 as well. So, if you got a Prime Visa that's an even better option with the 5-6% cash back.

Community Reviews

AirPods Max 2 are premium over ear headphones that stand out for strong sound, excellent Spatial Audio, and very effective noise cancelling, especially for Apple devices. The H2 chip and USB C update are treated as meaningful upgrades, and the tuning is described as more V shaped than the original Max. The main knocks are the heavy weight, weak Android support, and Apple quirks like the bra case, no power off button, and no IPX rating. At $399, it lands as a solid Apple focused option if those tradeoffs do not bother you.

  • Apple users who want immersive movie audio, because Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking creates a strong Dolby Atmos effect.

    Galileo28GalacticBossanova

  • Mac owners who want seamless everyday use, because they can pick them up and use them across Apple devices without pairing hassle.

    GalacticBossanovaabcdefghijm

  • Listeners who prefer a brighter, more V-shaped tuning, because the out-of-box sound is less neutral than the original model.

    imFury

  • People who want strong noise cancellation for travel, because the ANC can block a train horn at point-blank range.

    jaymez619

  • Long-session listeners who are sensitive to weight, because they are noticeably heavier and harder to wear for extended periods.

    GalacticBossanovakootedannynjoni

  • People who want a simple carry case and easy power management, because the headphones need the case to power down and the case offers little protection.

    kdupuis77kdupuis77

  • Android phone owners who need full compatibility, because support on Android is poor.

    truelies

  • Gym-goers who need sweat protection, because there is no IPX rating and they are not waterproof or sweatproof.

The Apple AirPods Max 2 deliver a highly immersive Dolby Atmos experience. Powered by the H2 chip, they provide exceptional Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking. This creates a 3D surround sound effect that places instruments and vocals all around you, making them ideal for movies and supported music.

I don't really think one even can compares THESE APM2 to the XM5 at this point other than pure price.. the APM2 are just going to be noticeable superior in every category at this point, noticeably other than possibly weight. So if price is most important to you, then XM5 it is.. and that $150 assuming you can get it is a very good price on those cans.

If spending $400 on headphones, may as well step up to these:

I purchased these at full price when Gen 1 came out, back in 2021. The design, fit and finish were almost worth the asking price to me. It was something I wanted to own. Digging deeper, the sound was as good as anything you could get with bluetooth headphones, and they worked great with everything Mac. I already had the Bose QC to compare to tho, and these were very heavy in comparison to what I'd been used to so I ended up returning them. In the end, wireless sound just wasn't good enough at the time to justify the cost of these for me. I purchased this deal to see how much the H2 chip may/may not have improved sound quality and also for the other improvements Apple has made on these in the past five years. I also miss owning a pair. They looked pretty great on my desk. $399, and with advancements like H2 chip, better firmware, language support, USB C...etc. Might be the sweet spot.
** Looks like Amazon stock has run out again on all colors besides black. Costco is completely sold out. Walmart's site says the deal is 91% gone, so we're getting close to the end of this deal.

These headphones can cause tinnitus. If you get them, use them in the Off mode and stay away from active noise cancellation and transparency modes.

No you dont. Applecare is there as long as your total tech sub is active and goes away right after your sub expired. It is not "technically" free.
