The Chinese surveillance state is focused on controlling its own citizens and hacking high-level corporate IP. They do not care about the smart TV habits of an average consumer.

The entities actually tracking your daily life are right here at home:

Meta, Google, Apple, Microsoft, and others track your location, browsing, and behavior 24/7. Harvesting your data isn't a side gig—it IS their entire business model.

Federal agencies routinely bypass the need for warrants by legally buying your location and behavioral data straight from commercial data brokers, or compelling US tech companies to hand it over.

A Chinese hardware maker wants to sell you a device. Silicon Valley wants to monetize your entire existence.

Netgear and Cisco routers have had far more damaging vulnerabilities. There are also the allegations that Netgear "intentionally" put backdoor in their routers and that Netgear lobbied the US government to get TP-Link banned.

Isn't support on all tp-link updates ending in March 2027 if you own an existing product? I have a tp-link and once the security updates go, I'll probably update to something else. Unless I am wrong, maybe someone has newer news on what's happening.

Don't bother with this. Tried two of them and with the latest firmware, had packet loss consistently among multiple devices. Wasn't going to troubleshoot for hours, so returned. Also, negotiable speed improvement with Intel wifi 7 adapter paired with this, 20% at most. Not ready for prime time.

With all the vulnerabilities and back doors found who would ever buy products from this company.

Solid for past two years. 1.1 GB download on WiFi 7. Even spectrum guy was shocked I got that speed on WiFi. The only issue I have is that my PC takes forever to find the 6G band when first booting but I think that's an issue with my network card, not the router. Using some Qualcomm 7800 card stripped from a PCIE device.

If TP-Link isn't intentionally leaving backdoors or vulnerabilities in their routers, then they're incompetent or negligent. They are literally the worst of the large consumer-grade networking companies.

Personally, I straight up refuse to buy a router that doesn't run OpenWRT. I get that it isn't an option for your average user, but if you're not going to do it, at least buy an ASUS or something.

The average user doesn't care about security that much they just want a fast cheap router to set and forget.

Hoping to get a Wifi 7 router if a deal drops. What do you guys recommend? I got a renewed ASUS RT-BE58U for $95. Everything works fine except for Google Home Mini disconnecting randomly. I live in a 2 BHK apartment, 800sqft.

Back to my wifi 6 router. Couldn't find anything worthwhile at a similar price point.

Try resetting your home mini and then reconnect.

Had mine for almost one year and works great! Using my Gateway in bride mode with this router! This is $30 cheaper than what I paid.
