Milwaukee's M12 3 8 Stubby impact wrench is a compact, powerful car tool that shines for lug nuts, mower blades, and other routine garage jobs. The smaller, lighter body makes it easier to use around the car than full size impacts, and the 550 pound feet of breakaway torque is enough for most tasks. The main limits are its 3 8 drive, which means needing matching sockets and sometimes adapters, and tougher stubborn fasteners can still call for a bigger M18. The tool only deal also raises some warranty and seller confidence questions because it is not from an authorized dealer.
DIY drivers doing routine car maintenance, because it is compact, light, and strong enough for most wheel and underhood jobs.
Yes for most car work, including many lug nuts, F-150/Civic/camper tasks, and mower blade removal. It has 550 lb-ft of breaking torque and is described as enough for 95%+ of jobs, though stubborn nuts and axle nuts can still require a bigger impact.
No, this listing is tool-only at $159. A prior $159 purchase included an XC5.0 battery and charger, and another Home Depot kit deal with battery, charger, and case was cited at about $208.53.
The seller is not an authorized Milwaukee dealer. That can matter because authorized purchases use the purchase date for warranty timing, while non-authorized sourcing may leave the warranty based on manufacture date and potentially already shortened or expired.
For compactness, yes: the 3/8-inch Stubby is much smaller and lighter than full-size impacts while still handling most jobs. The tradeoff is that you need 3/8-inch impact sockets, and some users prefer the 3/8 version for this tool class.
Yes, but you may need adapters. One setup uses a 3/8-to-1/2 adapter to run a torque stick, though the adapter can limit torque transfer and make stubborn lug nuts harder to remove.
Milwaukee makes good tools, but the 3/4" will struggle with even smaller 4 door German cars and getting those lug nuts off in a timely fashion, never mind something more beefy like a large pickup truck.

This has 550lbs of breaking torque.. that should be plenty for the vast majority of applications outside of something like maybe an axle nut but even then I've had luck breaking axle nuts with mine

My truck has a 140 ft-lb setting. What vehicles are you talking about that a 550 ft.lb impact can't remove?!

Call me crazy but the 3/8 has always been the preferred version. Who is realistically using sockets larger than 24mm on a gun rated at 550. They also sell the low profile adapter sleeves.
I already have one of these, and I totally get it - how someone could be skeptical about that. There are a lot of positive ratings for the seller however, 4.7 out of 5 on average. They look like legit reviews. To get the lower prices one must be comfortable dealing with this kinda stuff as this pricing doesn't usually come around from all re-sellers.
data point: I bought as part of this deal (after having previously bought an Amazon Warehouse deal that wound up being a M12 Screwdriver that someone stuffed into a Stubby box ). It showed up today, in a new looking box. Checked the serial via the warranty checker that Milwaukee provides and it says that the tool is (estimated) valid for warranty through 2030 (or whatever).
Now that I think about it, that's a year less than it should be for the 5 year, so it's possible that this is the tradeoff of a non-auth'd dealer (maybe _they_ picked up a bunch last year), but -- not something I'm concerned with, for warranties like these where you have to ship 'em the tool I basically assume I'm probably SOL if the tool breaks.
But, in any case, it seems like the tool is authentic. Not the best deal -- I managed to miss the HomeDepot 2025 Cyber Monday-ish deal on this where it was the tool + the 5ah high output batt for $159, but I think $159 is about as low as the new price has gone in the subsequent 6 months (or at least that I've caught -- there were a few HD deals that sold out immediately in Feb/Mar).
There's currently a hack going on Home Depot where you can get the kit (wrench, 5Ah battery, charger, case) for $208.53 when you hack it with the ratchet: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../330838850

I am assuming you meant 3/8.
Don't let the Stubby name deceive you. This 12-volt tool will do circles around most 18v-20v tools.
Sounds like you haven't held a red Stubby yet ⚡︎❤️💪

Better deal IMO
Agreed. The tool price at $159 and High Output 5ah for $50.
For those who want full power out of Stubby, this battery is necessary. At $50 for this battery, that is the lowest at this time. Plus you get the $20 case and the charger. It's a no brainer if you are set on the Stubby.
Just a slickdeal comment:
$159 for the kit including the HO 5ah battery and soft case would be a very exciting deal.

DIY drivers doing routine car maintenance, because it is compact, light, and strong enough for most wheel and underhood jobs.
Owners who want a 3/8-inch impact for lug nuts, because it handles car lug removal and can still break axle nuts.
Shoppers who already have 3/8 impact sockets, because this tool is 3/8 and works best when the socket set matches.
People replacing a full-size impact for everyday garage use, because this smaller wrench can cover 95%+ of jobs without pulling out the bigger tool.
Truck and heavy-duty lug-nut work, because it can struggle to loosen stubborn nuts quickly and may need a larger impact.
Shoppers who need a complete kit out of the box, because this listing is tool-only and requires separate battery, charger, and sockets.
Buyers expecting maximum torque from a 3/8-to-1/2 adapter, because the adapter neck can limit how much power reaches the socket.

Then we look out for the new low below $159 for the tool, HO 5ah battery, case and charger, and a free accessory or extra battery! 😁
