Milwaukee's M12 3 8 Stubby impact wrench is a compact, powerful car tool that shines for lug nuts, mower blades, and other routine garage jobs. The smaller, lighter body makes it easier to use around the car than full size impacts, and the 550 pound feet of breakaway torque is enough for most tasks. The main limits are its 3 8 drive, which means needing matching sockets and sometimes adapters, and tougher stubborn fasteners can still call for a bigger M18. The tool only deal also raises some warranty and seller confidence questions because it is not from an authorized dealer.
DIY drivers doing routine car maintenance, because it is compact, light, and strong enough for most wheel and underhood jobs.
Yes for most car work, including many lug nuts, F-150/Civic/camper tasks, and mower blade removal. It has 550 lb-ft of breaking torque and is described as enough for 95%+ of jobs, though stubborn nuts and axle nuts can still require a bigger impact.
No, this listing is tool-only at $159. A prior $159 purchase included an XC5.0 battery and charger, and another Home Depot kit deal with battery, charger, and case was cited at about $208.53.
The seller is not an authorized Milwaukee dealer. That can matter because authorized purchases use the purchase date for warranty timing, while non-authorized sourcing may leave the warranty based on manufacture date and potentially already shortened or expired.
For compactness, yes: the 3/8-inch Stubby is much smaller and lighter than full-size impacts while still handling most jobs. The tradeoff is that you need 3/8-inch impact sockets, and some users prefer the 3/8 version for this tool class.
Yes, but you may need adapters. One setup uses a 3/8-to-1/2 adapter to run a torque stick, though the adapter can limit torque transfer and make stubborn lug nuts harder to remove.
I am assuming you meant 3/8.
Don't let the Stubby name deceive you. This 12-volt tool will do circles around most 18v-20v tools.
Sounds like you haven't held a red Stubby yet ⚡︎❤️💪
Ah you're probably right about the lug size, and I do actually have an M18 impact that works great! In fact I had to return this (or another one like it) impact as even applying it for 5-10 seconds wouldn't be enough to get the more stubborn nuts loose.

The M18 impact makes quick work of it, however.
I wonder what ah battery you were using but I would bet that if you were using m12 5.0 Ah High Output (48-11-245), it probably would've made a big difference.
I would not rely on m12 Stubby to loosen tougher/larger lug nuts all day. I prefer to use impact wrenches with greater overhead in torque. It's a good feeling to have big guns to overcome stubborn suckers. Also keeps tools happy.

The M12 battery was a RedLithium XC 6.0 AH so it shoulda been okay.
What I bet was really the limiting factor was that I had to use an adapter kit to go from the 3/8" of the impact to the 1/2" of my socket, and the tiny neck on the adapter probably isn't sufficient to transmit all that torque properly.
