For those knowledgeable in this field; is it safe to assume one would need only an operating system and case and this kit to diy a machine?

You would need a case, power supply (psu), DDR5 RAM and a graphics card (gpu). Maybe case fans if the case you buy doesn't include them. You could find a cheap operating system key or go the Linux route.

Still need:
  • DDR5 RAM – DDR5-6000 CL30 32GB is the sweet spot for this platform (G.Skill Flare X5 or Corsair Vengeance)
  • GPU – 9800X3D has no iGPU so nothing will display without one
  • Case – needs to fit ATX
  • PSU – 750W+ 80+ Gold depending on what GPU you go with
  • Windows license if you need one

RAM as well, the bundle doesn't seem to include it.

Which other deal? Discounted RAM is potentially more valuable.

Curious about this as well, harder to get cheap RAM so I'm prioritizing that.

It does have integrated graphics. Gpu suggested, not needed though to display an output.

AMD said they were re-releasing the 5800x3d, if you're wanting that style of AM4 cpu.

And they'll charge you normal full price for a product which they previously discontinued because it was "obsolete", from which they had already recouped design and development costs.

You've got a partner in AMD.
