Theragun Prime is a powerful massage gun aimed at deep tissue work, with 16 millimeter amplitude, strong press down resistance, and a more powerful feel than cheaper knockoffs. The handle is described as rubberized and softer, and the grip quality stands out. Battery life is also called better than budget alternatives, though the device is really loud. The main hesitation is value, since similar features and stronger competitors like the Bob and Brad D6 Pro Plus are cited at similar or lower prices, and this price is seen as close to its usual range.
Athletes and deep-tissue massage users who want stronger percussive pressure, because it has more force before stalling and reaches deeper tissue than cheaper knockoffs.
Brand-agnostic buyers who want the strongest spec sheet for the money, because competing models can deliver higher stall force and more accessories at a similar price.
It has stronger percussion, better battery life, and more head travel before stalling, which makes it better for deeper tissue work. Cheap knockoffs can be fine for light massages, but they are often underpowered and may fail within months.
The D6 Pro Plus is described as having 16mm amplitude, up to 85 lb stall force, 7 attachments, a heated head, adjustable head angle, and a hard case. The Theragun Prime 5th Gen is cited at 30 lb stall force and no case, so the D6 Pro Plus is presented as the stronger value on paper.
The 5th Gen is described as more powerful and having a rubberized, softer handle. It is also noted for better grip quality compared with earlier versions.
It is described as close to the usual Amazon price range of about $200 to $210 rather than a deep sale. A Gen 6 Prime was also listed at $200, which makes the $160 price look lower than recent reference pricing but not dramatically discounted.
Curious to those that may be able to compare...is the price premium associated with the name brand really worth it over all the generic versions out there? Does the Theragun actually provide noticeable functionality over those much cheaper copies?

In my experience, its a case of you get what you pay for. Having gone through at least 4 cheap(er) knock-offs and no-brands, finally landed on Therabody. The cheaper ones (sub 50s) are mostly under-powered and die (battery) within a few months. I had one that I did not use for about 4-6 months and no amount of charging would cause it to work again - dead as a door nail. The only exception was one ( can't find the link to it now) I found here that was about $75 - held strong for a year and a half and then out of the blue the machine would randomly start and wouldn't stop. I opened it to find the board had gone faulty but the battery was still good. Long story short, yes, in this case, the price seems be justified. I could have purchased a quality product from the start for a higher price than experiment (and fail) with junk products. I have the previous version on this Theragun, and I highly recommend it.

The Bob and Brad D6 pro brand from what I researched is comparable at lower price. Same 16mm amplitude. Note like theragun, select Bob and Brad models do not support this amplitude.

in my experience yes. Quieter, more force, longer battery, better amplitude and the grip quality is better

Yes the theragun is worth it over the cheap knockoff by a long shot. Theragun has a better battery for starters, the travel distance for the head is greater(this varies model to model), the amount of force you can press down with the theragun is greater then the cheap ones before it stops( this allows for deeper tissue massages). But if you only need light massages then by all means get and stay with the cheap ones.
