It's not just a monitor. You are comparing apples to oranges. It's not a good deal. And before you ask, my fridge is full of Apple Kool Aid.

8gb ram is over. I'd rather take an m1 16 than an M3 8

Should be noted that Siri AI needs 12GB to run locally.

8gb of ram was over back in 2013. Here we are, 13 years later, and folks are still trying to sell us that meager amount of hardware...at premium prices...!

Awesome price. The Ram is really a problem. If it only was 16GB, I would bite. The M3 is still a solid CPU.

The problem with the monitor argument is that you cant take it with you to newer machines without hacks or wifi. No one buys a hooptie with an unusable engine because "well, it has really nice paint and body lines!"

Better off spending an extra $150 and get one with 16gb. Bonus, those machines tend to also be M4 machines. And considering that the cheapest M4 mac mini is $799 right now...

....what does a display have anything to do with a sub-par amount of ram?

Let's not move the goalposts, ok?

There are PLENTY of machines that start with 16gb as a barebones, entry-level option. Some even start at 24gb now.

This right here.

It might be an exceptional monitor -- which is 100% locked to that specific machine.

Sadly, even you're a bit mistaken -- there is no method, official or otherwise, to reuse the display with another machine. Back in the day, there WAS a really kludgy "hack" to get an Intel-based "I"-mac display working on another machine -- it required VERY specific code versions on both the source and target machine, and it only worked with another mac.

And it didn't even work all that well.

It's the pinnacle of ewaste.

Still requires software to be running on the "host" monitor. Impossible if the machine is fried (but the display is still good).
