This WEN 4800 watt RV ready inverter generator stands out as a lower priced alternative to comparable Predator and higher watt WEN models, with enough output and RV focused utility for backup power or camping. The electric start and carbon monoxide detection version is also discounted, and the unit can reportedly be retrofitted for remote start. It is not an inverter, so it is louder and less suited to sensitive electronics like computers and TVs. Propane and dual fuel options offer more flexibility, but they cost more and the dual fuel version is about $94 higher at the moment.

  • The generator can deliver strong value because it is priced about half of an equivalent Predator option using the same 224cc engine.

    WayTooEasy

  • The electric-start and CO-detect version can be discounted, and remote-start convenience may be possible via retrofit for RV use.

    warre2m

  • The propane start experience reportedly worked on the second pull, which can reduce frustration when using propane during outages.

    KeinoDoggy

  • The unit can be a practical RV backup because it is only about 30 pounds heavier while offering more RV-focused functionality.

    DonC69

  • The generator is not an inverter model, so it can be louder and may not provide clean power for sensitive electronics like computers and TVs.

    BLKCLDPurpleKitten499

  • Propane primary use can be less practical because propane tanks hold less usable fuel than gasoline jugs and propane produces less wattage.

    BLKCLDD3als0nWh33ls

  • Electric-start models may use an electric choke, so a dead battery can prevent pull-start starting.

    KeinoDoggy

  • WEN may face trust concerns for extended backup use because some buyers associate WEN with cheaper woodworking equipment.

Great generator at 1/2 price of an equivalent predator using the same 224cc engine. I have one in the garage for my rv.

Electric start and CO detect version of this is also 25% off. If handy, you may retrofit remote start which handy for RV

No propane no deal
Just wondering why you would not want. Propane costs more. 20 lb tank (15 if exchange filled) contains less fuel than 5 gallon jug. Produces less wattage. Harder to get than gasoline. Ok it can store longer but then you can use gasoline in car and mower to rotate storage and keep fresh. It's not hard to run the carb dry. (There is a setting for that on this one) Propane tanks time out at 12 years or less for refilling. If recertified 5 years. Haven't found a place to walk in and get that done. Gas cans don't expire. Other than shelf life I don't see the benefit so I was curious as to why. I currently have 14 generators of varying sizes and features (yes it's an addiction) I've tried propane as well and the 100 pound tanks instead of 20lb bbq I find just not feasible. I have had three and sold two off already. Heavy as hell to move and transport by yourself. (About 150lbs full) must be transported upright so need truck or trailer. Difficult to unload or even move by yourself when full. Must be transported upright. Maximum of 4 20lb tanks legally allowed to transport in car suv or enclosed vehicle. Have to have an open bed truck or trailer for more. I do own the electric start version of this but have not run. I have had two Wen 3800s which I really like and this 4800 being smaller lighter and more powerful the 3800 so I just recently sold those but haven't used the 4800 yet. Also have the Wen 11000 it is dual fuel not inverter though. Don't get me wrong though nice to have the dual fuel for flexibility and if it was this price for the dual fuel I'd already have it ordered. May order it anyway as a backup like the 3800s. Currently $94 more though for dual fuel. Yet the dual fuel is normally cheaper than just electric start version lately without Prime days deal. DF wasn't available yet when I bought the electric start version.

Some people want propane just in case. For me, I dont have gas lawn items. So propane would be my primary on random outages. Extended i could do both gas or propane

Agree 100%. There is no reason to sell "gas" only. Manufacturers should make dual fuel standard.

One of the things people looking to buy an electric start needs to check into is the fact that some generators use an electric choke. If the battery is dead, the pull start will not start the generator. This is one reason I stayed away from electric start. I bought this when it was on sale last week for $419 and it starts on the second pull running on propane.

Thanks. I'm in prime summer storm and hurricane country with power outages that last days to weeks not just an hour or two so needed the other viewpoint as I am used to lengthy outages. Thanks

I thought Wen was just known for making cheaper woodworking equipment. Should this be trusted as a backup for extended periods?
