Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a visually strong, combat solid entry that still feels like a weaker Prime game overall. The $29.99 Switch 1 price is notably low, and the Switch 2 Edition can be reached more cheaply by buying the base game and upgrade pack separately, with the upgrade pack also showing up around $9.49 to $9.99. The main knocks are its linear structure, repetitive scanning and backtracking, and a padded fetch quest or crystal grind. A few comments also point to cartridge load speed issues on Switch 2, making the cheaper route more appealing if you want the game without paying full Switch 2 Edition pricing.

  • Buying the Switch 1 version and then purchasing the Switch 2 upgrade pack can lower the effective cost versus buying the Switch 2 version outright.

  • A promotional credit was applied immediately after purchase, which reduced the out-of-pocket price for at least one buyer.

  • The Switch 2 Edition cover text indicates the upgrade pack makes the game playable on both original Switch variants and Switch 2 systems.

  • The upgrade pack price on Amazon was reported as $9.49, adding another potential savings lever beyond the base deal.

  • The game includes repetitive enemy recycling and scanning-focused gameplay that can make it feel poorly designed.

  • The listing may show the Switch 1 version, so buyers need to toggle carefully to ensure they are selecting the Switch 2 version.

  • The game can feel like a slog due to forced linear progression, long crystal farming, and frustrating backtracking.

  • Load speeds on a cartridge were reported as poor on Switch 2, with the buyer wishing they had chosen the Switch version instead.

Switch 2 version is $45 but true slickdealers know you buy the switch 1 version for 30 and then the switch 2 upgrade pack (when you play it) for $10.

How did they give you a promotional credit? Is there any relevance or was it a you-only situation?

No mentions of any coupons or promos, likely some credit that they had on their account and got offered to apply automatically.

According to deku deals, Breath of the Wild was 50% off about a year after release. And it's one of the most popular switch games of all time.

Just a heads up, it is as bad as the reviews say it is. I got this for about $30 during GameStop Pro week and man.....it's kind of a slog. They promote open world but force linear activity. To artificially lengthen the game you have to farm dumb crystals for hours before you can beat the game. It forces you to backtrack entire zones, like you have to go here, but it's a dead end and it tells you to go to the other place that you already were but it wouldn't trigger the sequence because you didn't go to the dead end first. It's really frustrating, and it's the same two enemies recycled like a million times.

I'm not sure if Retro Studios was held at gunpoint to make this game or just didn't care anymore because everything about this game feels wrong.

True Slickdealers get the Nintendo eShop cards at a discount before making the purchase of the Switch 2 upgrade as well.

This may be YMMV but check your local library and see if they have it available. This was the case for me. I finished it and saved myself $30+. The reason I say this specifically for this game is because it's a pretty bad Metroid game and not really worth keeping.
