Have these and love them. While I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a true audiophile, I do care about having great sound and own several pairs of high quality headphones. For casual listening I'll often put away my far more expensive pairs and break out my 599s. They're VERY comfortable to wear for long periods of time and have a nice, full sound with a wide soundstage that makes them also nice for gaming or watching videos that have good surround sound. If you're really in to audio accuracy, they do have a bit of an elevated mid/bass and these probably won't be what you're looking for, but for general use and to the average user these sound amazing. As with any higher quality headphone, they sound best when paired with an DAC Amp.
Overall the sound quality to price ratio is excellent on these, and this is a great price! Nice find.
I have pretty big ears and most headphones are a bit tight. For reference the sony xm1004 just barely fit. These are a dream and the only pair I can have on without having ear pain or getting sweaty.
One of the best open-back headphones on the market at this price point. I'd go with an ATH-M50x, but at this price, you're getting so much quality for your buck
These are somewhat veiled sounding so they are easy to listen to but might not be good for someone who likes to hear a lot of details. Sundara on the other hand will provide details but can sound a bit bright and fatiguing if you're sensitive to high frequencies.
I would NOT agree that these have "balanced audio." I'd pick them over Beats or Bose, sure, but these still tilt towards the "cozy" sort of sound with a boost to the lows and reduction in the highs. The angled drivers inside also help achieve a more natural timbre. For videogames, I feel they blunt the highs too much to immerse myself in the virtual worlds, the HD 598 and HD 560S would both be better for immersion or competitive gaming. Might be fun for bassheads that don't want the bass to be too exaggerated. You do get used to the sound!
The HD 599 do have their place, and I agree they're comfy and lightweight to wear.
