Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey is drawing attention as a strong value play for protein powder, especially when buying multiple tubs. The deal lands well below recent Costco and Sam's Club pricing, and several purchases arrived with expiration dates in 2027 or 2028, easing worries about near-expiry stock. Flavor feedback leans toward Extreme Milk Chocolate, Double Rich Chocolate, and Vanilla Ice Cream for mixing or Ninja Creami use, while Milk Chocolate can taste overly sweet and some batches have a gritty or bland finish. A few checkout glitches and shipping limits showed up, but the long shelf life and low per pound cost make it a practical bulk buy.

Common Questions (3)

  • Yes. Multiple orders arrived with best-by/expiration dates in 2027-2028, including tubs manufactured in April 2026 and expiring in 2028. The printed date is a best-by guide, so unopened tubs can still be usable for months if stored properly.

  • Double Rich Chocolate is described as the better chocolate option, with a more natural dark-chocolate taste and no sucralose, while Extreme Milk Chocolate is called overly sweet, artificial, or having a weird undertaste. Vanilla Ice Cream is favored for Ninja Creami use, and the chocolate flavors are also noted to mix well with water.

  • Yes. The chocolate flavors were shown at about $36 for 2 in cart, but the price increased during checkout for some buyers, while vanilla stayed at the advertised price. One order also dropped to $35.20 for 2 when SNAP was used.

If you don't care about taste, texture, or smoothness this https://slickdeals.net/f/19632705 is a better value at 2 cents per gram of protein compared to 3.2 cents per gram
Taste and texture for sure, gritty and blah, unflavored is better tasting

Tempted... but isn't haul stuff close to expiration normally?
Close to "best by" date, doesn't "expire" and the date is guidance for when the product is no longer guaranteed to be its best, still good for months.

Is this any better than Kirkland Signature? Price per pound is about the same in my area.
Quote from yellowducky View quoted comment :
My local Costcos are no longer carrying the Kirkland Signature protein powder for some reason. I went recently and tried to buy it, but the staff couldn't even find this product stocked in my local area. I didn't even get a chance to try it.
As far as I know, Costco Kirkland Signature protein powder was discontinued recently.

If you care about protein quality, this isn't it. Full of filler, no published amino acid profile, and no trace of leucine content. For a product like this, value quality over price.

No way to add discounted vanilla to the cart in order to buy.. Only a shopping list.
