It's the heating element. You can get all the replacement parts on Amazon and watch how to fix on YouTube. It's a pretty simple fix.. I think I paid like $15 in parts?
This 30 inch Masterbuilt electric smoker stands out as an easy, beginner friendly way to get steady, even smoked meat in a compact footprint. The capacity is solid for its size, with room for a small turkey or several racks of ribs, and the digital version is described as insulated enough to hold temperature well even in the 40s. The price is also framed as strong value versus recent history. Main caveats are the weak window, the smaller chip chute, and the need to keep it out of weather, since the control board and heating element can fail but replacement parts are available and repairs are simple.
Beginner smokers wanting an easy first unit, because it is simple to use and holds steady temperature for even cooking.
Owners who want a smoker that can be repaired cheaply, because replacement heating elements and other parts are available and the fix is straightforward.
It can last for years with regular use, with reports of about 3 to 4 years per unit and one newer model still holding up after roughly 3 years. Keeping it stored in a garage or shed helps it last longer than leaving it covered on a patio.
Yes. The heating element is a common failure point, but replacement parts are available on Amazon and the repair is described as simple, with parts costing around $15 to $18. A control board can also be replaced if needed.
Yes, and the attachment is recommended even if you do not plan to cold smoke because it adds more smoke for longer cooks. It can run about 4 to 6 hours and improves smoke flavor and smoke ring, though it may be out of stock at many stores.
Yes. It is described as very easy to use and a good fit for beginners or occasional smoking, with steady temperature control and enough capacity for a small turkey or several racks of ribs. A decent wireless thermometer is still recommended, and the window is considered unnecessary.
It should be stored inside a shed or garage if possible. Keeping it covered on a patio is reported to shorten its life, especially if it is exposed to weather.
I had a version of this product for several years and loved it. So easy to use and the capacity is pretty large for a compact footprint. Easily fit a small turkey in there or several racks of ribs. The temperature is easy to control and keeps steady for a nice even cook. My downfall was not keeping it completely out of the weather, or a possible drunken mishap, cleaning it as the control board shorted out. I'm sure I could have possibly ordered a control board but I got a lot of life out of it and someone else took it on as a project. Now I have been missing my smoked meat and see this on sale....
You guys are killing me today! Ordered my first smoker, let's go!
FYI the reviews are pretty good overall with a few bad ones hear and there. The average price based on the last year is around $250 so this is a slick deal and the lowest price in the last year. Lastly if you have Amazon prime CC I did the slow shipping and got 7% cash back.
Seconding the recommendation for the 'cold smoke' Masterbuilt attachment even if you never plan to cold smoke, for the extra/extended smoke. I've been using this (technically an older version but they haven't changed much) smoker for 10 years or so, and just finally got the cold smoke this last weekend. The main smoker doesn't produce as much smoke as a traditional or pellet smoker, and your smoke production is kind of chained to heat, because the heating element for the unit is also what burns the wood chips. Meaning on a warm day when the smoker is up to temp, smoke productions falls off a bit. The attachment produces more than enough smoke, and lasts ~4-6 hours. Made the best pork and brats I've ever had this weekend, finally getting enough smoke for great flavor and a proper smoke ring.
Does it hold the temp really well and are the chips that easy to empty and reload? I have an older model but you have to constantly work the temp and adding wood means opening it up. I'd love to know from someone who actually uses it.
I have only used it to cold smoke marrow bones for my dog so far with the attachment cold smoker (separate purchase).

yes, i bought for mine and that mainly what I use. Read the reviews. The standard mounting is garbage and securing it with some self tapping screws is the way to go.

Backyard cooks smoking a small turkey or several rib racks, because the compact cabinet still has enough capacity for larger cooks.
People smoking in cool weather, because the insulated double-wall cabinet can hold temperature when nights drop into the 40s.
People who need a smoker that can sit exposed outdoors, because it can fail sooner when it is not kept completely out of the weather.
Pitmasters wanting heavy smoke output from the main unit, because smoke production is limited and falls off as the cooker reaches temperature.
Cooks who plan to use wood chunks, because the smaller chip chute makes chunks harder to use.
Users who want the mounting hardware to feel secure out of the box, because the standard mounting can be flimsy and may need reinforcement.
