Yep, the AI tax stings. I bought this exact drive from Amazon "open box - like new" on 11/20/25 for $140.08 + tax. Sold it for $350 cash. Today bought the 4TB version from B&H for $460 + tax for an algo strategy workstation build to get increased hardware endurance.

Its real demand at least. And suspect it will get worse before it improves. AI has a long way to go. I just hope the 'local' fashion doesn't spread beyond niche. Hopefully by 2027 prices should normalize and fall

Is it real demand? Where are the shortages that would normally drive up prices? The way I see it, you can buy whatever drive you want on Amazon, except for everything is 2-3x the price it should be. That stinks of market manipulation.

It's definitely demand. Of course, anytime there's real demand, there are opportunists and rampant greed which contribute on top. Since COVID taught these players that they can succeed, I'm sure the price inflation would've much less acute otherwise

It has always been cyclical. 2027 is what I have heard as well. Eventually both hardware and software advancements should make this a non-issue also.

You bought a 4TB 9100 PRO today from B&H for $460?
Edit: Oof, I see the deal in Reddit. Not sure why I didn't get an alert from SD .

Unfortunately when I checked B&H about 20 minutes before this post here, it was already sold out. Totally would have grabbed one (or many depending on the limit). I picked up the 8TB 9100 PRO SKU from Amazon last Black Friday week for $750. That felt expensive at the time but feels like a dream now...
