The Sonos Era 100 SL is a compact speaker that shines as a surround channel or as a room music speaker, especially when paired with an Arc or Arc Ultra and a Sub. The setup can sound excellent, with clear vocals and strong overall performance, though the sub level may need boosting in some systems. A few orders arrived brand new with factory seals intact, but some resale listings were canceled or split between one and two units. It looks like a strong fit for building a Sonos surround setup without paying full retail.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. The Era 100 SL works well as surround speakers with a Sonos Arc, and two of them can be paired into a hot surround system. They also work as standalone room music speakers if you want to use them outside a home theater setup.

  • It can arrive brand new, even though the listing is used-like-new. Reports mention original box and factory seal intact, while another unit arrived in perfect used condition, so condition can vary by individual item.

  • It can sound great in an Arc/Era/sub setup, but one similar Sonos surround setup was reported to have voices drowned out by sound effects and poor EQ controls in the app. Another setup with Arc, Era speakers, and a mini sub had clear vocals, so performance may depend on the source device and tuning.

  • No. The black refurbs were reported to exist, but the 25% checkout discount did not apply to them. A separate black non-SL resale listing was noted at 20% off for $132 instead.

Incredible deal and these are really nice surround speakers, or stand alone general music speaker for a room. Highly Highly recommend them.

Had almost this exact same setup (swap the Era for Sonos One G2) with the Sonos Sub and was extremely disappointed (even got 15% off the whole thing). The EQ controls in the app are terrible and voices are drowned out by other sound effects. Tried everything possible to fix the sound quality such as using the room correction feature and the speaking priority mode or whatever it was called. Returned and replaced with a dedicated 3.1 setup and have never looked back. And yes I understand that means you need a dedicated amp/receiver but the tradeoff was well worth it. I really wanted to love it.

I have the Arc Ultra + Sub + 2xEra 100. I have to boost the sub volume. Overall I am happy with the setup--but I paid only $1K for them. If I were to pay $2K or more, they would not be worth it.

Is it possible to just run 2 of these for stereo audio for a tv? Or do you have to have the soundbar as a connector?

Might be whatever device was transmitting the audio. My setup sounds great with the Arc, Eras, and a mini sub. I'm hearing impaired so you'd think drowned out vocals would be an issue for me.
