It's kind of weird that Apple's new Neo's are being re-sold already.

8gb is a big ouch. m1 8gb is e-waste and anything other than couple of tabs in chrome is a killer. i also noticed that i killed my hard drive in a couple of months by constantly using swap as memory.

Not true, I have now professionally used my m1 air 8gb for photo editing for the last few years and it's still going strong. I'd never do video editing on it though. It's not my main computer but I travel a lot and it's great on the go.

i can't take your words seriously. i swear people made your exact argument and defended microsoft with they came out with microsoft surface laptop with only 4gb of ram. everyone harped that it is good enough for most people and daily driving it for school and coding.

I've got an M1 with 8gb that has performed perfectly fine for 5 years and the Neo reviews extremely well. If you need more ram, by all means buy more, but for day-to-day computing I've not even thought about upgrading.

I don't know why people feel the need to argue against folks' real world experience. It's easy to just say "okay, glad you had that experience".
I don't know why you'd feel the need to bring in an entirely different machine into the conversation either. Maybe just let the folks who are having good experiences talk about them freely.

There's some back and forth in this thread about 8gb being either fine or the worst thing to ever happen.

Personal experience - One of our laptops is the rock bottom M1 8gb Air (which lines up fantastically with this Neo) and it's *still* fine for us. Really. Photo editing, movie editing, using Firefox for internet, we even did a bunch of AI image generation through Stable Diffusion (back when it first became a thing on Mac), Apple Arcade gaming stuff, etc.

It would be a bit slower if it has to slam the swap a lot, but we really honestly have never had any kind of issue and our household tends to buy much more powerful gear than a MacBook Air. If you're trying to find something decent on a budget and are okay with using OSX, I really can't imagine beating this price right now.

Student disscount = $499. And brand new with full warranty - this deal stinks like the current regime.
