This isn't the original American Segway company that made the iconic self-balancing transporter in the early 2000s. That company is gone. In 2015, the Chinese company Ninebot acquired the Segway brand.

I can't comment on the quality of this scooter. But it's not an American-made Segway scooter. It's a Chinese-made scooter sold under the Segway name.

Segway / Ninebot is still one of the best made scooters out there - basically every review will agree. They're not perfect, but they're better than most especially for the price.

Feels like waste of money with segway. They break easily and firmware is glitchy.

There are other reputable reliable brands that cost less for similar specs such as GOTRAX and some popular AliExpress brands which I own. Segway scooters tend to cost more because of their brand name and not because they offer competetive features/speed/range/etc.

Doesn't the rear use regenerative electronic braking, which would significantly decrease the amount of use the front drum brake sees?

I have this. Rode it 100+ miles no issues. Anti theft alarm is extremely loud and always scares the neighbors when I try to move it but forget to unlock

Normal price is $700 on the Segway website, more elsewhere.

When it was a "American" company the CEO killed himself riding one. Nothing has been American made in 30,years except few items.

Who knows , maybe he was killed .....and made it looks like he was killed riding his product .
Throw him over the cliff , and get one of his Segway and throw it with his body . Now , the company is getting sold ...
It is such an old cliche, every movie you see, they use the cliff story. I'm actually sick of seeing or hearing about it.
How many other people jumped over the cliff using a Segway???

Seems like many things that used to be American are no longer American. My friend was mad when I told him that the Jeep Grand Cherokee he just bought is not American (although I think it's made in America) but Italian--Stellantis. Sort of like Segway. Similar to buying a Honda or Toyota made in the US, in my opinion. Oh well

That's the problem. They stick American brand and sticker price like American products instead of Chinese products. So if they made is China? Why not buy Chinese brand with similar spec for what 1/4 of the Segway brand? Get the point?

just go with a cheap scooter or get a used one. They all break and do not last. Segway/ninebot is owned by Chinese, you are just paying for a brand name.
