The strongest value here is the newer iPad mini 6 and a few MacBook and accessory picks, especially when the mini 6 is listed as brand new with a one year Apple warranty. The mini 6 is framed as a solid upgrade over older minis, with enough support left for several more years and pricing that compares well with refurbished units. The main concern is that many of the discounted iPads and Pro models are already around five to six years old, so the savings come with aging hardware and shorter remaining support. That makes the newer listings and the better spec MacBook configurations the most compelling parts of the thread.

Common Questions (5)

  • The 11-inch iPad Pro at $350 is an older, factory reconditioned model with a 1-year Apple warranty, so the value depends on whether you want Pro features or just a current iPad. A newer M-series iPad Air is suggested as the better buy if you want longer relevance.

  • The iPad mini 6 listing is brand new, not factory conditioned, and includes a 1-year Apple warranty. It is also reported to qualify for an extra $35 off when you log into Woot through an Amazon account.

  • The mini 6 should still receive updates for about 3-4 more years, and iPads in general typically get major iPadOS updates for 6-8 years with security updates lasting longer. That makes it a usable budget pick even though it is an older model.

  • The 11-inch iPad Pro 2nd gen 1TB Wi‑Fi + cellular unit is reported to arrive brand new, fully updated, fully unlocked, and working with a Canadian physical SIM. It also included AppleCare through June 25, 2027 in the reported purchase.

  • The Thunderbolt 4 cables at $30 each are described as a strong price for that cable type. That makes them a reasonable add-on if you need a certified high-speed cable.

Apple has committed to fully complying with age verification laws, meaning that they will eventually require gov't ID and facial recognition to identify yourself and prove your age, purportedly to protect the children.Of course, age verification isn't really to protect the children but to be able to censor you for what you say online. Better to gradually leave the Apple, Android, and Microsoft ecosystems now, moving to LINUX on computers and GrapheneOS on Android-capable hardware.
Apple is far from perfect, I have issues with a number of their product decisions, but they've proven they care about security & privacy much MUCH more than any major player.

You win an award for the weirdest post of the year. Those Linux tablets are huge sellers right now. But where can I find that Linux phone? Fight the power!
You get a Google Android phone. Go to GrapheneOS. It has a step by step to de-Google the phone and install GrapheneOS. It's very easy and much, much more privacy minded.
Edit: ...TBH, you are kinda the weird one with the "fight the power!" comment. If you think there isn't a monumental move right now by TPTB to drastically change everyone's lives and restrict freedoms to a truly disturbing level, than please remove your head from the rear end and get caught up on what has been happening while you sleep.

Thanks, got the Apple MacBook Pro M2 13.3" 24GB memory 1TB ssd (Space Gray) for $1,105.64 (total). I know it's an older processor, but I love the touchbar and it's still a great laptop with decent amount of memory and disk space for this price point.

I love my Apple devices and have been buying their products since the late 90s. That being said, as a tru fanboy I absolutely recognize that Apple "caring" about their users' security and privacy only goes so far when it's butted up against profit margins It is a useful marketing point though and I would say generally they are the least worst compared to Microsoft, Google, Meta, flipping ByteDance, etc lol. But do not forget they work with China routinely, they roll out every mandate coming out of the EU and if our own US government were to push them hard enough, they would absolutely sell us down the river if and when they need to haha. The lesser of 6 evils though if you wanna play in our modern always connected mainstream tech world though.

Not all of it is factory conditioned. The iPad mini 6 is brand new and comes with 1 year Apple warranty. I was able to get an extra 35$ off the price because I logged into woot through my Amazon account. I figure this is a good upgrade over the mini 5 because next year the next mini is probably gonna cost 799 if it comes with an OLED panel. Currently refurbished beat up and scratched iPad mini's are selling at minimum 310$. So for a brand NEW iPad for 315 even though it's older is fine. It's plenty to run the next couple years of IpadOS generations.
Thanks for sharing all the info! Appreciate the knowledge of this iPad!!!

Most of the heavily discounted iPads including the "new" iPad mini 6 are almost/over 5 years old. And most of them are also refurbished. Apple supports these devices for 5-8 years. They will be obsolete in the near future.
Do you know how long it will update and still be current???? TY

According to Macworld:
iPads typically receive major iPadOS updates for 6-8 years, with security updates continuing even longer afterward.

Apple classifies devices as vintage after 5-7 years and obsolete after 7 years, making repair services increasingly limited for aging iPhones.

Good sources for more info:

When iOS updates stop, some apps often become unavailable as the newer versions & features of such apps will require a newer iOS.

lol. Yeah try to convince grandma and the average person to do that. I guess you didn't see the most recent Linus tech tips Linux challenge. Not exactly user friendly still. Also most android based tablets aren't anywhere near as nice as the cheapest of iPads. Screen quality, speakers, performance, it's not even close. Unless your getting a high end galaxy tablet and even then your back in this 800$ price range where... your not shopping around on woot for a deal lol.
Oh, I agree that the average person is just going to submit to being spied on by every big corporation and government. They won't care until they are personally affected, but by then it is too late, like the people in the UK who were visited by the cops for posting something online that the UK gov't didn't like. At that point, will saving a few hundred bucks on an Apple tablet matter when they'll be paying their defense attorney thousands?

That may be true now, BUT Apple must obey the laws of the jurisdictions they operate in, and as the gov't presses them for more and more privacy violations, they will comply.

Also, they are the "least bad" player, but "least bad" is still bad, not good.

LINUX, being open source, could be compiled/built by anyone at home (after removing whatever offending code is inserted in there at gov't request). I expect that the first wave of more people building LINUX for themselves will be in the 3D printer, router, and FPV drone spaces, since the gov't is going after those first.
