It's mostly a myth. It's fine to cook acidic food in cast iron.

Made from the finest recycled cast iron from old engine blocks, train tracks and whatever old cast iron they find in China to recycle. And yes, the iron does leech into the food, one of the benefits of cooking with it in fact, so that iron you are getting is some of China's finest.
