Great deal. Note this only works on 7 & 8 inch circ saws; if you have a 6-inch one like the ones that frequently come in those Home Depot bundles, you need a smaller version: https://www.toolservicenet.com/en...P381091-00

Are these things brand-specific or generic (i.e. will fit on all/most circular saws?)

I have a Kregg rip fence and it will work with any size circular saw. I've got a 5 and a 1/2 ryobi.

I find that ripping long boards is not the forte of my battery powered 6.5 inch saw.

Yes. The rip guide usually fits certain models of a particular brand. The distance markings can also be off even if the guide fits the slot in the base.

But you can find aftermarket guides, too.

If they don't bend easily, don't rust prematurely, will properly fit the model of saw that they are intended for, and have clear, accurate markings, then yes. That's pretty much the case for any aftermarket fittings, though.
