Modern factors: because of (Star Wars) licensing costs, add an extra 2-4 cents per piece; average size-per-piece is now smaller, as in maybe the Technic series; mega-kits (many are licensed) multiply to that very-high absolute price.
When factoring the explosion of 3800 unique pieces- each injection-molded at high volume to CAD-designed tolerances of .002mm- it's really not grandpa's blocky legos anymore.
