Community Reviews
This AcuRite wireless fridge and freezer thermometer is a practical way to keep tabs on aging appliances and catch temperature problems early. It has strong range, with the display staying connected even when the freezer is on another floor, and the batteries can last for years. The alarm is useful, and the setup has helped prevent food waste. The main caveats are that clearing stored high and low readings is less intuitive, the two sensors can differ by about 2 to 5 degrees, and lithium batteries are a better fit for freezer use.
Common Questions (4)
The main unit batteries can last years, and the freezer sensor batteries have lasted 3+ years in long-term use. Lithium batteries are recommended for sensors placed in a freezer because they handle cold better.
It can catch temperature problems early enough to prevent food loss, and several years of use were described as saving more food than the device cost. Learning the alarm sound helps you respond quickly when it triggers.
It works well for monitoring, but the two sensors can read about 2-5°F apart even when placed next to each other. That makes it better for spotting unsafe swings than for exact lab-style temperature readings.
Yes, the range is strong enough to keep full signal bars with the freezer on a different floor about 20 feet away. That makes it practical for monitoring a basement or garage freezer from the kitchen.

I have this one and the older model [amazon.com]. Clearing the stored high/low temperatures on this model is not as intuitive (the older model has a dedicated clear button) but it's easy enough to just to pop out a battery and put it back in.
For the sensors, I recommend paying the extra for lithium batteries especially if you're planning on dropping one or both in a freezer.

Same experience here, but I opted for the energizer lithiums, works great.
