The Switch 2 Upgrade Pack adds more than a simple frame rate bump to Breath of the Wild, with higher resolution textures, 60 fps, a second save slot, expanded cloud inventory, and Zelda Notes app integration for navigation and audio diaries. It also keeps the game optional, since the base version still runs without it, and active Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack members get it included. The main drawback is that the upgrade is paid and tied to an active subscription or the cartridge key, which frustrates players who expected a free optimization. A practical add on if the extra features matter.
The upgrade package can be included automatically for active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.
The Switch 2 edition cartridge can act as the key while the Switch 2 edition is installed.
The upgraded pack's content can be used on Switch 1 as well, including a digital Switch 2 Edition full game.
The Zelda Notes app integration can add audio diaries and may support item-sharing functionality.
Access to the upgrades can be lost when Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership is not active.
The upgrade can feel like a paid patch that monetizes performance and quality-of-life tweaks without substantial new content.
The upgrade can be optional, and it may be required to get 1440p/4k at 60fps and Zelda Notes.
The Switch 2 edition patches can remove item duplication glitches that some players relied on for playability.
