The M3 iPad Air sits in a strange spot. On the one hand the M3 processor is faster than 90% of PCs out there. It is extremely overkill for most tablet applications and Apple (of course) will never let you run MacOS on this device. And yet it doesn't have the 120Hz screen of even the 2017 iPad Pro, which means the latency for handwriting input is higher and many applications are perceptually more sluggish. My two cents: casual users are better served by getting cheaper or older iPads while handwriting users are better served with any relatively recent incarnation of iPad Pro.

Good if you need cellular. Otherwise I'd prefer the M4 for $520 at Costco. Faster chip and 12GB RAM vs 8GB for this M3 model

The M3 iPad Air sits in a strange spot. On the one hand the M3 processor is faster than 90% of PCs out there. It is extremely overkill for most tablet applications and Apple (of course) will never let you run MacOS on this device. And yet it doesn't have the 120Hz screen of even the 2017 iPad Pro, which means the latency for handwriting input is higher and many applications are perceptually more sluggish. My two cents: casual users are better served by getting cheaper or older iPads while handwriting users are better served with any relatively recent incarnation of iPad Pro.

I upgraded to this from IPad Air 4 and could not tell a difference. The most annoying this was after flipping it to landscape mode the volume button layout switched driving me insane.

I chose this M3 model with cellular over the M4 wifi only. It makes a difference when taking an iPad away from home knowing it still has Internet service and can access everything you would with a wifi connection. I would've liked the M4 cellular model, but as of June 26, 2026, the M4 cellular is $900. That's too high. If cellular is not needed, get the M4 wifi, it's a great buy. I would love it if the screen had 120hz refresh panel, hopefully in the next model or two Apple will finally add the feature to the Air lineup.

I bought the M3 cellular over the holiday season when the M3 cellular iPad (128 GB)was $600 at Best Buy and there had been a PayPal deal for 20% cash back if paying in 4 payments, so about $120 back (a little more due to sales tax), which at the time was the best deal for a cellular iPad. I agree with what you wrote. I like having cellular set up on device and not having to worry about connecting to hotspot every time. $479 is a good deal.

After going cellular on a tablet, it's tough to go back to wifi-only. I would only consider a wifi-only tablet if I only used it from home.
