Note that 2025-2026 Sony TV lineup will be the last model year developed and produced under Sony's existing standalone TV business before the transition to the new joint venture under TCL who will oversee the Bravia line. So if you want a good standalone Sony TV at a great price, this might be one of the last chances.

this tv has a peak brightness of 300 nits which makes it dimmer than my crappy 4 year old business laptop. it "supports" hdr only in name (by mapping brightness onto what the panel can do) but it can't display the brightness required to give hdr color volumes. people who want to play modern games should skip it because it's only 60hz (and the aforementioned dim display). really, don't get this. there are cheaper tv's that are better.

Probably better under TCL unless OLED. TCL makes some of the best MiniLED panels right now.

Only TVs I've had die early are a Sony and TCL, can't wait to see how the joint venture turns out.

Define "die early". My childhood bedroom tv was a zenith tube that lasted probably 30 years since it was almost 2010 and might have been bought before I was born. My 2nd tv and first flatscreen I donated so may still be working. My 3rd and first "big screen" was a panasonic that lasted maybe 5-8 years at most, and I consider that dying early.

My 15 yr old Panasonic plasma is still kicking. There's some burn in the screen thanks to the CNBC ticker, but it still works well.

This TV is crap go to Rtings and check it out, great TV LMAO I have two TCLs from 2009 or 2010 garbage looking tvs but my mom uses them for daycare and they are on from around 6 am to like 6-8pm, thousands and thousands of hours no problems with them. They currently make some of the best MiniLED tvs on the market. This isn't TCL from 20 years ago. They actually make their own stuff, they own the factories where panels are made unlike many others who outsource and jack up prices. One guy said the only TVs to die on them were sony and TCL, that sucks, but I can't take anecdotal evidence from ONE person when they sell tens of thousands of products. Again go to RTings and look up some of TCL's latest. They compare favorably to the best, yes the best from Sony. Bottom line this is the WORST, entry level TV from them from 2025.

My Sony experience has been excellent. Agreed - one anecdotal post isn't evidence of anything.

This is a get what you pay for tv - it's big for cheap from Sony. That's it. 60hz - most won't care, but brightness and black levels - this will win no awards - but $550... so you get what you pay for.

Do not buy budget tier Sony TVs. They make great high end TVs, especially OLEDs (or I guess they used to). However, their budget tier TVs like Bravia 2 are utter garbage. You can find better models from Hisense or TCL for similar price.
The Hisense U6 was $500 not too long ago. It's $600 at Costco right now. That's a way better TV for similar price.

Do you regularly watch your TV outdoors under bright sunlight?
Don't bring all the brightness and refresh rate crap here. It's completely irrelevant, especially at this price point.
Most potential users of this TV, even if they use it to play games, don't even know what you mean by 60Hz or 120Hz. Or 300nits. They'll be perfectly happy with this item.
Get out of here.

The 60Hz isn't ideal, but for a name brand TV of this size I'd say this is worth a shot. Thanks!
