This refurbished Helios Neo AI 16S stands out as a high spec gaming laptop with strong value, pairing an RTX 5070 Ti and Intel Ultra 9 275HX with a QHD plus OLED 240 hertz display. Performance is described as excellent in AAA games, with solid ray tracing and frame rates around 60 FPS without frame generation and 120 FPS with it. The main tradeoffs are the loud fans, hot chassis, weak speakers, glossy screen reflections, and very poor battery life. The 240 hertz refresh rate was locked for some setups, though BIOS now offers a 120 hertz option when unplugged, making it a capable travel friendly desktop replacement if those limits are acceptable.
Gamers who want top specs for the money, because the performance-to-price ratio is described as insane despite the compromises.
Traveling gamers who plug in at the destination, because it delivers strong gaming performance in a portable chassis and can be limited to 120Hz on battery.
The Chase eBay offer is 10% cash back on the purchase including taxes and after discounts, but it is capped at $3 total cash back. That makes the effective return very small on a $1,371.99 laptop, so a 2% card can be better.
Yes. It can run hot and loud under gaming loads, and battery life is reported as very poor even for basic browsing. The locked 240Hz panel and sleep-mode behavior are cited as major reasons, so it is best treated as a plug-in gaming laptop.
Yes, the refresh rate can reportedly be limited in BIOS, with a 120Hz option available when unplugged. That helps reduce battery drain compared with leaving the panel locked at 240Hz.
I had this for a few days and can confirm some of these issues. But something else that was very distracting was the glare and reflections from the super-glossy screen. I have multiple OLED TVs and things with OLED screens (all glossy), but the screen coating or the lack thereof on this laptop is just too distracting. I had to crank the brightness up a lot just so I don't see my own reflection on the screen. Otherwise, the screen is beautiful when used in dark environments.
Another issue was the battery life and the fan noise. Fan noise isn't that bad, but the battery drains too quickly even when just browsing the web. Finally, the build quality is also sub-par. This laptop looks and feels mid-level. I returned this after a week.
I purchased this laptop and I'm absolutely blown away by the performance for how little it cost. I can max out any AAA title and get at least 60FPS with no frame gen or 120fps with it turned on. It even handles ray traying very well. Only downsides are the speakers suck (I ran some tweaks and managed to get it to sound a bit better) and the refresh rate is locked to 240hz. I expect the battery life to suck and it to run hot for a gaming laptop so it is what it is.

This is a mixed review. Are you gonna keep it and deal with the issues? Also, people are reporting the latest BIOS update addresses the 240 Hz refresh, did you update your BIOS since purchasing?

I actually ended up returning it and spent an additional $500 on an open box Asus Zephyrus G14 with the same specs from Best Buy. I had the latest bios and still locked to 240hz. The downsides outweighed the positives for me. The build quality, battery life, speakers, and portability on the G14 is night and day different. Now I'm getting the same performance in a smaller package that I can use as a daily work computer as well. The performance of the Acer really was impressive for the money but the build quality of the laptop itself was very cheap and I worried about longevity especially with so many refurbs listed on ebay.
