I was pretty tempted by this but I think there are several reports of them failing after a short while.

Ive had the previous gen r-12sw for about 5years, and have had zero issues. It's constantly getting moved around and used outside in a humid environment we well.

They are pretty well known for amp issues.

I've had full klipsch speakers for about 12 years now, *no* complaints. They're super clear and can get way louder than i need as a music enjoyer and not a window shaker fan

Get the RP-1000sw for about this price when it goes on sale, or spend a little more for the 1200sw. Much better subs.

That has zero to do with this listing, which is for a Klipsch SUBWOOFER. Lots of companies that make great speakers make mediocre, overpriced subs. Klipsch has long been a case in point, with the recent exception of their new RP (Reference Premiere) model series.

THIS sub however, is from the preceding older series, the R (Reference) series, which is notorious for early amp failures.

Generally, much better price-to-performance (and sheer PERFORMANCE period) from subwoofer specialist companies like Hsu, RSL, Rythmik, PSA, and even (if one lives outside the US where those 4 are not available) SVS are hugely preferable.

And if any salesperson tells you that it's important to "match" the brand of the sub to the brand of the speakers you have, that is a clear sound they are either complete idiots or completely untrustworthy slimebags.

Hard pass even at this price. Much better off getting the RSL 10e for cheaper or the 10s for a bit more. Both will destroy the Klipsch

These can be found cheaper at adorama either open box or used. I have a total of 6 of these. Only one ever failed and it was my fault. Roof leak got water on it and the amp shorted out. Went back on aforama and found a used r12sw that was in poor shape but the amp was still good so bought it for i think $65.00 switched some components around plugged it in and green light came on. Everything working as normal. It's been going strong for 3 years now.

Not surprised it's 1 of 6 ratio.
This always gets blown out of proportion, every brand has a failure rate!

Yes, often times, it is self inflicted.

If your expectation is to rattle walls/windows,break foundation, bother neighbors this offers that performance at a great price!
No need to overpay for some sub specialist, not going to do that much better worth the higher cost ime.
