Bought one of these at the same price last week. Works just fine. From what I can't gather the benefits of a metal case are threefold.

It will dissipate heat better. In any temperate climate I wouldn't worry about that too much. Use judgement.

It and might ground better and cause less damage in the event of a surge. This is possible, but I'm not sure I'd bank on it.

Metal shields interference. A legitimate concern, but probably not a huge issue for a small home network. To solve this, you'd want not just a shielded switch, but also cables.

Heat dissipates better for metal according to google. If this is for light use it's not bad but if it's for a lot of traffic I'd worry about this thing melting.

I wouldn't think it would melt. If you lack AC or are putting this in an attic or something you may want an upgrade, but for a good majority of home networks this is probably fine.

That said, they have metal ones for like $12 ($11 in "like new "condition)

Same. I have a 24 port POE Gigabit TL-SG1024DE and am happy with it.

I only recently started looking at these so forgive my ignorance please. These are priced 8$, some are 200$ idk the difference , some are digital, some analog I think I seen. You can't run more than one item at once?? I recently ran a cat 6 cable for my ps5 . My cable box, ps5 and smart tv , all wireless worked decent but the ps5 the worst. At times can be spotty. Now that I have 1 cat6 ran I may as well plug in the tv and cable box. Would this switch work for me? I only plan on running one device at a time.

Yes. This would work for you to turn that one cat6 cable into potentially 4.

This device requires power. You plug a cat6 cable into your router, then the other end of the cat6 cable into this switch. You now can plug in 4x cat6 cables into this switch and run them to 4 different devices.

Your router will handle the traffic that goes to each device. This just gives you extra ports to your router, shared over 1 cable.

You will be limited to 1 gigabit (1gig up + 1 gig down) shared by the 4 devices plugged into the switch.

You can run all devices connected to the switch at the same time.

Thanks for your help. 1 more question I didn't notice cat6 cables short cheap on Amazon. 1.5ft cat 8 cable $3.99, is cat 8 and cat6 compatible?

These thing generate barely any heat. I have an 8 port version of this switch that handles every traffic (internal and external) at my home, powered on 24x7. It is fairly cold. If I remember right, it draws less than 10w.
