Amazon is full of medica converters that are cheaper than this. There is at least one two-pack this price. I'm not going to link them because the sellers don't meet SD minimum lifetime feedback. But, they are "ship from Amazon" FBA so should be fairly safe.

People trying to save a buck on hardware deployments. In my experience, SC hardware has been consistently and significantly cheaper than LC.

After reading the description, I think it means multi-mode fiber with SC connectors. This is the same connection that you would have used two decades ago in your fiber mode switches. I am not going to look it up, but I think that multi-mode was good up to a kilometer, but many might choose it because there is no ground fault between nodes, and very limited lightning damage between buildings.

I think this is a very limited audience. I have a lot of multi-mode fiber that I would give away to anyone who asks. Three decades ago, it was valuable, but not now. If you want to run MM fiber through a conduit, you will probably have to buy and learn the terminations. The SC connector can come apart, but you still have two fibers with ceramic ends that take up space while pulling it.
