Awesome saw and price seems to be hovering around what it was back in June 2025.

I had one of these from forever ago, glad to see they haven't changed the ergonomics. Hopefully the internals are still decent quality.

I far prefer the cordless style. Only get this if you need it, not as your first circular.

I assume the aluminum makes it a bit lighter? Great saw but on the heavy side, making it not as versatile for many. I agree with the previous comment about not being your first circular saw.

The magnesium version is lighter than the aluminum version.

AvE did a teardown and comparison of old vs new a few years ago. According to him, it's not a skookum choocher.

Legit construction saw. If you're not framing, roofing or demo you're not getting the full value here. Better off cordless for most DIY.

I only want one so I can destroy some shit with reckless abandon

Yeah, I try to be optimistic but ultimately I'm not surprised. Seems like it could maybe be "upgraded" in a few ways e.g., new/custom handle (seems doable), replacing other plastic parts, etc., but it wouldn't be too easy & it sort of undermines the general idea of an affordable tool given the custom nature of the parts.

These points of failure have to be knocking decades of life off of the saw, so I think it'd be pretty cool to get one that somebody had thoughtfully upgraded as a gift (as the guy from your videos mentioned, he used to give the older saws as gifts because they'd last a "lifetime"). I wish there was a market for this kind of thing because I love making mediocre shit into great shit.

well yeah, these are Legendary saws. i used to work with a Makita hypoid gear variety that lasted forever. Anyone know if the Makita hypoid gear one is just as good??? the one i worked with was about 30 years old, and they may have 'improved' them so that doesn't happen any more. 🫩
,
the bot i asked seemed to feel the Makita was heavier and torquier.....Both saws have their strengths. The SKILSAW is ideal for users seeking a lightweight, powerful tool for tough jobs, while the Makita hypoid circular saw may be better suited for those who prioritize torque and power, despite its heavier weight and potential blade position drawbacks.

AvE's teardown of the Makita is over a decade old, so not sure if it's been cheapened since then, but for what it's worth, here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIKPUL6b4N8
"as well made a tool as you're ever going to get."
