This DeWalt fiberglass D handle drain spade is a compact digging tool best suited for trenching, ditch cleanup, and planting or removing small shrubs. The heavy duty blade, D handle ergonomics, and weather resistant fiberglass handle drew strong praise, and the shorter handle was seen as handy for close work. The $9.98 price showed up in select locations, with free shipping or store pickup, but pricing varied by zip code and some orders were canceled. A 42 inch version also surfaced at the same price in some areas, making it a solid low cost option when the local deal applies.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, the 42" version is also listed at $9.98 in some locations, including ZIP codes 91710 and other select areas. The straight-handle version is also reported at the same price when the local sale applies.

  • Yes. The $9.98 price is location-dependent, with some ZIP codes showing free store pickup or free shipping and others reverting to much higher prices like $35.98 or $40.48. It can also be canceled if the local deal does not hold.

  • Yes, when the deal is active in your area it can qualify for free shipping or free store pickup where stock permits. Some orders were delivered free to the door, while other ZIP codes only showed the sale price for pickup.

  • The shorter handle and D-grip are described as comfortable and useful for digging narrow trenches, removing volunteer trees, and planting or removing small shrubs. The 32" handle is also noted as slightly longer than a similar D-handle shovel, which improves leverage.

  • Yes. Using the Home Depot link through the exchange store reportedly drops the price to $8.98 with no tax and free shipping for eligible military and veterans.

Shows $40.48 for me in central Florida.
Sorry, may be it's local and YMMV. I just got mine delivered for free and it's a steal for $10 and it's 42" as well.

There are a bunch in stock here in SW Washington. Picked one up in person because I wanted to check it out.

Seems well made, and a steal for the price. I like the D-handle ergonomics. The handle is just a bit longer than a somewhat similar D handle shovel I have, which improves it's usefulness to me.

I immediately tried it out digging up some volunteer trees that needed to go. I think this might be one of my favorite shovels going forward for planting or removing small shrubs and such.
