Philips Sonicare 1100 is a slim, low cost rechargeable toothbrush that covers the basics well, especially for everyday cleaning and travel or work use. The handle feels lighter and slimmer than older Philips models, the quadpacer timer is useful, and the heads can be swapped with other Sonicare handles. Third party heads also keep ongoing costs down, and the battery can last about a week and a half, though charging may take most of a day. The main tradeoff is fewer modes and less power than higher end Sonicare models, with some concern about durability around the shaft and water intrusion over time.

  • The brush can work well with third-party replacement heads, which can reduce ongoing costs.

    hoelmerorionx

  • The slimmer design can make the toothbrush easier to handle than bulkier prior models.

    Frank_Horriganhikifune

  • The handle can hold a charge for at least a week and a half, which supports regular daily use.

    starcaptor

  • The quadpacer timer can help guide brushing time, and the lighter slimmer handle can feel more comfortable.

    hikifune

  • Aggressive brushing modes can crack the shaft and create loud noise within about two years.

    jaymez619

  • Water intrusion can occur when the seal rots, which can prevent charging by getting water into the handle.

    albokay

  • Recharging can take almost the entire day until the light turns off, which can slow turnaround between uses.

    hikifune

  • The cleaning power can feel less than higher-end Sonicare models, especially for users who expect stronger vibration.

Any reason people buy the much more expensive ones that Costco sells?
I have these over the years I can tell you that once at Costco's are definitely better thean the cheaper one with no modes. you can definitely feel the power is less.
I'm getting one anyway to use at work or handy bday gifts

That is my point. there is literally no empirical evidence at all for EITHER toothbrush being cleaner than the other. the only variable that has shown a difference IS the price, and durability, for me. But im just a random on the internet. As is everyone else here. Add my anecdote to the pile of others.
Another anecdote for ya. Until last year? I was a manual brusher. Bought a cheap $8 unit posted on SD. Last dental visit, the hygienist said I had virtually no plaque. (Not that I had a ton before.) But that told me that 1) and electric toothbrush can be better than manual and 2) a cheap electric is fine, so I don't need to pay for an expensive brand. My 2 cents...

I've used both Sonicare and Oral-B toothbrushes. In my experience, I get better plaque removal from Oral-B than Sonicare. I wouldn't waste my money on a Sonicare no matter how cheap it is. After brushing, drag your fingernail across your teeth. See what comes up.
I alternate between these two is one is good with cleaning near gum line and other one plaque.

FWIW.....I just went down this rabbit hole and ended up going with the Aquasonic Black/Icon series toothbrush. There is a point where you get what you pay for, and the Aquasonic is recommended by the ADA and many dentists for its price vs performance ratio.

FYI: The aggressive brushing modes destroy them within 2 years. The area around the shaft cracks inside and gets annoyingly loud. It's an ingenious method to get you to buy more. I went through 3 before I realized this. I'm going on 4 years on the same brush since I stopped using the more aggressive mode.
Philips has replaced the same brush for me twice, almost 2 years out of warranty. I suspect they want you to buy the brushes.

I got a 4100 on sale a few months ago and I couldn't believe how wimpy it was. Anything 4100 and below uses cheap little motors like you'd find in a children's toy. The higher models still use the old style of motor that actually vibrates enough to clean plaque properly. You might as well just buy one of those $9 OnlyOne brushes, at least it comes with 2 years worth of brush heads.
The 4100 used to be the cheapest model that had strong motors, but apparently they've been silently downgraded in recent years so you have to buy the more expensive models to get a fast enough vibration

My 12 year old healthy white is starting to not charge any more. Is this basically the same thing?
