I have the 10" version and love it. Use it weekly for work. Mine has the built in legs which is super handy, but doesn't look like this one had that option. I paid $295 for mine for comparison.

Yep, Skil makes both a 15-amp and a 13-amp version of the 8-1/4" table saw, different models.... but virtually identical other than the slightly smaller motor on the Walmart exclusive that apparently does not noticeably impact performance.

It doesn't. Basically just need to go slightly slower with hard wood

Missed the refurb deal. Would this be a good first table saw to cut plywood, rip 2x4/6s to build storage solutions throughout my house?

I just used this to rip 2 2x8x16 and 8 2x6x16. The fence is absolutely terrible and will slip but as long as you put a clamp on both end after you have it set up to your measurement, it rips just fine. I love it for the price, definitely better table saws out there although!

Add the coupon going on now; brings it to 227.35

I'm in the same boat, want to get into wood working to build cabinets I think table saw is better for this than a table saw and guide (need to return this miter saw I bought, not really going to need this unless we redo the trim)

He's talking about the 10" Skil through CPO on eBay that is out of stock, that deal is dead, the referenced coupon is expired.

FWIW, Walmart currently has an Open Box of the 13-amp model for $160, via a well-known 3rd party:
