The Raypak Protege 1.5 HP Variable Speed Above Ground Pool Pump is engineered with Permanent Magnet Motor Technology to deliver superior energy efficiency and performance. This single phase pump adjusts its speed and flow rate dynamically to meet pool demands, significantly lowering energy consumption compared to traditional single speed pumps. Its induction motor with a 48 frame thru-bolt design provides durability and reliable operation. The pump includes versatile 1.5" or 2" PVC union connections for easy installation and maintenance. A large 89 cubic inch pump basket captures debris effectively, while the clear quick-release lid allows for convenient access and monitoring without tools. Designed for quiet operation, this pump is ideal for maintaining clean and clear water in above ground pools with reduced noise levels and operational costs.
  • Permanent Magnet Motor Technology: Enhances energy efficiency by adjusting speed and flow rate to pool needs, reducing electricity costs.
  • Variable Speed Operation: Allows precise control over pump performance for optimal energy savings and quieter running.
  • Durable Induction Motor: Provides long-lasting reliability with a robust 48 frame thru-bolt design built for continuous use.
  • Oversized Pump Basket: Large 89 cu. in. basket captures more debris, reducing maintenance frequency and improving filtration.

Single speed = on or off
Variable speed = changes speed, usually start slow and works up to full speed. It's easier on the motor.

For the price seemed like a no brainer to me. I have a 20 yr old single speed pump...

This is an insane deal. If I still had a pool, I would verify specs and then probably buy two.

For that price I picked one up. My 6 year old VS pump could go out anytime and it'll be nice to have this waiting in my shed.

I assume this would be used to run through a filter or a heater? Filters with pumps are relatively cheap with the Intext 2500GPH at $99. I assume the variable speed and large 1.5hp make this a better option if you attach it to a filter?

Variable speed start at full speed to prime the pump. Looks like you don't know what you are talking about

pump is not self priming, it won't pull the water up from an in ground pool

Got one to replace my old single speed pump, but found out this is 240v after the fact. Still grabbing it, but it's not gonna be as plug n play as originally hoped.
