They don't. It was actually a stage light exploding.

Surprising their microphones picked up a chair drop so loudly. I guess all the cast were sitting on chairs on the stage, so if it happened that close it would make sense.

I didn't care for the 25th Anniversary Les Mis concert (Nick Jonas, why?), but was glad to see they brought in Lea as Fantine.
Peter Jackson did an impossible job of creating Lord of the Rings on film, and it must have been an extreme effort for all.
I believe Les Miserable could be a superb mini-series, but I don't see how it could be performed in a single online showing, nor how the powerful messages could be conveyed in a musical production.
I invite arguments against my stance that musicals and powerful ideas don't mix well. Please give a great idea for a musical "Schindler's List".
